Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Overview

An ideal portrait-length prime, the Nikon F mount 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC from Rokinon pairs a bright, fast f/1.4 maximum aperture with a short-telephoto focal length to suit portraiture and other applications where shallow depth of field is desired. This manual focus lens incorporates one hybrid aspherical element to control chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and even sharpness and illumination. This lens is also characterized by an internal focusing design, which maintains the overall length during use, as well as an 8-blade rounded diaphragm for a smooth bokeh quality.

This 85mm f/1.4 lens features a Nikon F mount, and is compatible with FX sensors or DX sensors, where it will provide a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
A fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position for shallow depth of field shooting.
One hybrid aspherical element helps to control chromatic aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity.
This manual focus lens features an internal focus design to maintain the overall lens length during use and the front filter mount does not rotate when focusing to better enable working with polarizers, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning.
A rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.
This Nikon F mount version of this lens features a chip to relay focus confirmation, use of auto-exposure modes, and EXIF data between the lens and camera.

Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Reviews

An amazing lens for the price

This lens comes with no electronics at all, and it is as manual as it gets. But what you do get is some nice sharp glass. The lens feels well made and the focus throw is long and perfectly dampened. This lens is pretty good in the center wide open, but it really shines at f2.8. Excellent value for money.

Good for astrophotography

I purchased this lens to fill a gap between my 135mm and 50mm lenses for astrophotography. I have used this lens on numerous occasions now and I am very pleased with the results. I pair this lens with a Canon T6i for wider images than I get using a 135mm, but more detail than I get using a 50mm. I step it up to f/2.8 and get round stars to the edges.

Another Great Rokinon Lens for Astrophotography

This is the third Rokinon UMC lens I own for astrophotography having already purchased the 24mm f1.4 and the 135mm f2 from B&H. Although I cant comment on how they perform for street, landscape or portrait photography, they make excellent lenses for astro work at a friendly price tag. Users used to auto focus will be disappointed as these lenses do not offer AF, but their corner to corner sharpness along with very low coma make them almost perfect on unforgiving star images. Stop them down at least one stop and they really shine as is typical of any lens with this wide an aperture. B&H has always excelled as my go to source for everything photographic.

I've heard a lot of good reviews with Rokinon's design and performance. The moment I started testing with this new lens, I knew it had such valuable quality. It's more affordable and yet carries such a strong character

I like it!

I saw the low price and pretty good reviews and tried this. I really got it for blue hour and night photography. If you have a situation where you can use the manual focus it's excellent. The 1.4 aperture is great at night esp if you are doing panoramas as the corners don't matter as much. Sharp, good color and light. I am really liking it. DOF shallow for astrophotography so you may need to do focus stacking. For night cityscapes it's fantastic.

Bought this to use for astrophotos and was not disappointed. It's a pretty small telephoto lens, but shoots perfect at night on my 70D at f2! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cheaper telephoto lens

question

I'm interested in the 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical for Nikon w/focus confirm chip. Problem is that I don't know if my D3100 has the chip. The manual has been less than helpful.
Asked by: Anonymous
A focus chip is in the lens not the camera. This lens has one so it will confirm the focus when you manually focus.

Anybody using this for astrophotography?
Asked by: Jerome
While this lens can certainly pull in plenty of light due to its large aperture, a wide angle lens would be more ideal for astrophotography, such as the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Nikon with AE Chip, B&H # RO1428NC. https://bhpho.to/3iuSlWY
