    Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 reviews

14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Sony A is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear and easy to use I love this lens! I am using it with an A99 and have captured some amazing landscapes, skies, wedding images and even some band shots at a live venue. There is definitely some distortion with the 14mm if your subject is not in the middle of the frame. I haven't noticed as much of an issue near the top and bottom of the image it has mostly been on the left and right. This is something you will run into with any wide angle lens. That said... Its nothing that photo editing software cannot fix. The manual focus is fast and smooth, I have not once wished I had an AF setting on this lens. I have used it at fast paced events like weddings and live music venues and generally setting the focus to infinity does the trick. This is a solid build and totally worth the investment if you need a wide angle lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great combo with A99II. Absolutely love this lens. I have had this lens since last 3 years now, and have shot interiors, nature and landscapes with this lens by paring with my Sony A500, A77II and now A99II. This lens is far sharper even in corners, has less distortion, and far better colors. This lens is sharp wide open in the center, and the f/2.8 allows you to get some perfectly acceptable bokeh for close up subjects, even though that is not the purpose of this lens. From f5.6 untill f16, it is tack sharp corner to corner. The chromatic aberration and vignetting seems to be less when stopped down and it can be easily corrected in the post processing. I have Sony, Zeiss, Tamron and Sigma A Mount lenses as well but this one stands against others at this focal length by delivering incredible results. If you are looking for wide angle lens for Sony A Mount system, this lens is the way to go since it yields superb results. Check out my pictures at 500px using this lens. Goodluck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cautiously Happy with this lens I bought this lens specifically to use for time lapse photography. The manual aperture control is vital for that purpose. My caution came when I tried to focus the lens at infinity. At f2.8 I found that the lens is focussed at infinity when set at the 3 meter index mark. Since I will be using this with a Sony NEX-5N which has the peaking function, that is not as big a problem as it could be in other uses, but it is an annoyance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have mixed feelings There are two aspects to my review of this lens. First is that the optics are sharp. For that I would rate the lens a 5. BUT, the other side of the usage coin is convenience. There are no contacts to provide through-the-lens metering, and that can be a problem if you don't have a separate, hand-held meter. No matter where I set the aperture and shutter speed, no matter what ISO I set the in-camera meter to, the in-camera meter reading is consistently -2.0. For someone who is not familiar with manual metering and exposure, that may lead to confusion and exposure problems. Another issue with the lack of contacts is that there is no autofocus capability. For those with poor eyesight, that can be a problem, even though wide angle lenses tend to be forgiving of focus errors. Since I began my interest in photography in the era of no auto-anything, I know how to zone focus. For those whose photographic experience includes only putting the camera in auto-something mode, they will have to learn several new skills. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I have always advocated that novices learn how to operate their cameras in M and MF mode, but I have a feeling that others will disagree with me. Overall, I like the lens and expect to use it a lot when I have a need for an extra wide angle lens. I would recommend it to others with a warning: Get, and learn how to use, a hand-held meter and learn how to use the zone focusing technique to control the zone of focus. This lens only works for you when the camera is set for manual focus and manual exposure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Lens Is So Good, It's Ridiculous! Sure, it has (a bit) of mustache distortion, mild barrel distortion, and mild vignetting at large apertures, but all these are barely noticeable in most photography. And very much more expensive lenses can have these flaws as well. But there is strikingly little chromatic aberration, and at f8, remarkably sharp corner to corner images are possible, even enlarged to 13x19, using my a99II body. The lack of autofocus and auto aperture control are not major operational flaws, especially when the very short focal length and price/performance ratio are considered. I can't speak to Samyang's quality control, but my copy is excellent. In short, a remarkably good lens, at a true bargain price. If you have a full-frame dslr body for which this lens has a compatible mount, and you desire an extreme wide angle optic, this lens is a no-brainer purchase, even if you would be prepared to spend more.
