Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 Reviews

Lens is adequate, Rokinon customer/product support is not

I tried the the Rokinon 14mm on my Pentax K-1. It works well once you figure out how to use it via the vague instructions from both Rokinon and Pentax (their mysterious green button). The Rokinon is vague and it does not tell you that their lens will definitely not come off the camera unless you unlock its aperture ring from the A setting. The instruction manual mentions this situation, but it does not mention what the solution is, it suggests other things. I had to figure it out by trial and error. It scared the daylights out of me thinking that I would have a fixed-lens Pentax K-1! When I tried to register the lens at the Rokinon product registration webpage, it came back with an error Whoops, it looks like something went wrong, after I clicked to send the filled-in registration form. When I tried to contact Rokinon about the product registration problem via their webpage, I got a recaptcha fail 2 error after clicking on [send]. The bottom line is that their support is only a facade. They will sell you the product but after that their product is your problem. Too bad because the lens does seem to take relatively sharp photos with no chromatic aberration.

This is a bargain if you don't need af

There are a lot of complaints regarding the inconsistent sharpness of this lens ( from lens to lens ) so I was fully prepared to exchange it. My copy seems perfect. I did a very simple test using the back wall of the studio and some junk that lives there. Images: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9kv6ysernjce4a7/AADUpqTZLadYxGtYVsq-dchaa?dl=0 - Sharp at f/2.8 through f/11. f/16 and f/22 suffer some loss of sharpness due to diffraction. Honestly, though...for $400 I'm not complaining - Vignetting at f/2.8 is pretty significant but is gone at f/8 - Considerable distortion that the current Lr lens profile doesn't do a great job of correcting **Lens flare at f/11 was my fault :P

Good lens

I bought this lens for astrophotography. The first night I used it, I got great results. Having said that, land scape shots make everything appear miles way, but the images are very clear. The only bad thing I can think of is the focus ring throw is very very long, but other than that, its a good lens.

Great deal on a solid lens

Received the lens exactly when promised. Packed very well. The lens is solid, has good light gathering capability and smooth operation. I'm looking forward to photography the Milky Way and the meteor showers later this month.

Bought about a month ago to use during a night photography workshop. I was worried that I would get a soft copy, but I have to say that I was incredibly impressed with the way I was able to focus on stars and also maintain a crisp foreground. It's a little heavy on my Sony a6600 body, but overall very pleased.

Purchased to try a little night sky photography. Took it to Disney attached to a Nikon D750 the day after I received it. Had to set the camera up to recognize this lens. Only took a couple of minutes. See others info on how to do this. These pictures were taken with no learning curve, 8/7/21. I'm very pleased with the results after the initial test at Disney. As you can see this is a typical wide angle lens. See Epcot 1.

Is this compatible with the Pentax K3? What is the difference between the IF ED UMC and the ED AS IF? (Newbie here, thank you!) Also in general, Im looking for a Lens for astrophotography for my Pentax K3, if anyone has other focal length recommendations I would love to hear them!
Asked by: Caitlin
Yes, its compatible. The UMC is for multiple lens coatings for less light scattering as it enters the lens to produce a better quality image.

question

Are there any Sony A7, A7R, A7S, or A7II users who tried this lens? How does it compare to the Rokinon 12mm?
Asked by: Jeremy L.
The 14mm is a canon mount and it can be used on the cameras listed but you will need an adapter like the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV.The 12mm lens is a fisheye lens. It is than designed to have distortion compared to the 14mm lens. Also Rokinon makes the 12mm with a Sony Full frame E mount. So an adapter is not used.

At 14mm this is about as wide as you will get for a Full Frame camera like the Sony A7RIII. This should work very well for your needs.
