    Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 reviews

14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Pentax K is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value Wide Angle I wanted this lens mainly for interior spaces in low light. The f/2.8 is excellent for that purpose. Outdoors of course is the main thing and there it really shines. Took it to Palo Duro Canyon recently and got some good photos with it. One thing about this lens is the large curved front element and its big lens cap. When walking around I keep the cap on so as not to get any scratches on the glass. The permanent hood helps protect it as well but I'm a little paranoid about that big lovely piece of glass. Just make sure you have extra space in your gear bag for it. Like all Rokinon lenses it is manual focus only. For me it is not an issue. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive, and a great price. I have only had this lens for a few weeks, but I can give it 5 stars. I am impressed by its solid construction, super sharp, color neutral photos, and how well it mates/handles with my new K1. The fact that it's a manual focus lens does not bother me at all. It takes a little getting used to, but the lens works perfectly. By the way, buying from B&H is great. When I bought the lens it cost $399. Two weeks later the price dropped $30. One call to B&H and I got my refund with no problems. I very happy with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Great image quality, very sharp rendering edge to edge. Moderate barrel distortion and some moustache distortion. Both can be corrected in post, but it does require extra steps. Also, no way to use any filters with this lens. It would be nice to add an ND filter or polarizer at times, but it's not possible due to the curved/protruding front element. Still, overall, a great value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More versatile than I expected great lens I'm a novice and needed a wide angle lens for traveling to see the northern lights. I understand that many use this for night sky photography which was helpful to know, and the review by Relocated was helpful to me in choosing this lens (and I can now substantiate their review as true for me also). I have a Pentax K50 and I found that I used this lens for many interior shots as well as at the arctic circle over my holidays. Highly recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not perfect but perfect price! Suffers from lens flare and a host of issues but just right for the price. Will not function with some of the settings that the Pentax K-1 has to offer but much cheaper than the Pentax alternative. Also lacks any threads so you won't be able to use any filters with it. That being said, you can get some amazing images out of this lens with some post processing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Wide Angle Lens for Stars I bought this lens for taking night shots with my Pentax K-5. The lens is manual focus, but the Pentax version does have an auto position on the aperture ring so the camera will control the aperture. I have used the lens for both day and night shots wide open at f/2.8 and I have been impressed by the sharpness. It is even better at f/4. One thing I noticed is that it is difficult to evaluate the sharpness and focus using either live view or on the camera LCDthe image is actually much sharper when you upload it to your computer compared to what you see on the camera LCD. The focusing is a little tough, so for star shots I determined the correct focus setting by trial and error and then used that setting for my shots. If you are using the O-GPS1 Astrotracer function, be warned that you have to enter the focal length manually and the only options are 12 mm or 15 mmthere is no 14 mm setting. Astrotracerl works fairly well but I get some slight star trailing if I go over 60 seconds. If you are using the lens for night shots without the Astrotracer, it does a very nice job. I get some distortion of the stars wide open but it gets better closed down half an f-stop. Build quality seems good. The lens cap is big, but locks in place securely when you put it on the lens. This is definitely not a general purpose lens, but the price is right if you need the extra speed and good sharpness at night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens I picked up this lens for night photos as well as for some landscape shots. So far it looks like I got a good copy that didn't have some of the common decentering issues or incorrectly adjusted infinity stop. I have really only had a chance to use it a few times now for some shots of the milky way and stars. So far, I'm really happy with the results and it's a great value for a very good price. The only cons that I see is the fact that the lens hood is permanent and you cannot use filters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from tricky learning curve I use this lens on a fairly old Pentax K-X. The manual focus ring is a bit stiff in my opinion and the depth of field isn't much different from f2.8 to f22. I also don't notice any change in lighting from the range of aperture. There is a silver button on the aperture ring that locks in place when turned all the way to f2.8 but I have absolutely no idea what it does. You can assume that I have no idea what I'm doing in general. However, I am able to get the majority of my snapshots to actually come out very nicely. I live on a college campus so wide shots of campus landmarks are a staple for me. I also have dabbled in some video using this lens and an Imorden s60c stabilizer. The video is absolutely beautiful. Even on old 720p resolution for the Pentax K-X. No chromatic abberation, no weird colors. Distortion is heavy of course but is less noticeable the further you are away from the subject and depending on how large or small the subject is (big, tall buildings are more noticeably distorted). This lens is good for when you want to capture big, expansive settings, not so much for people and events but that would all depend on your individual style of shooting anyway. It's solid, heavy but not too much, it seems as if it will last a lifetime. Quality assembly is present in each individual part of the lens. I'm mostly satisfied after a few weeks of using it. I'm still learning the ins and outs of it. I'd totally recommend purchasing it if you're looking into transitioning into wider angle shots.
