B+W 65-071938 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 72mm Light Red SC 090 Filter can be used to increase image contrast when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

This filter's effect corresponds to that of a Wratten 25 filter. Wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as green and blue colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with yellow, orange, and red colors are able to more easily pass though the B+W 72mm Light Red SC 090 Filter and into the lens it is mounted in front of. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, green to blue-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in very dark shades of grey than if a filter was not used. Simultaneously, yellow to red subjects are rendered in very light shades of grey.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the increased contrast provided by the B+W 72mm Light Red SC 090 Filter can result in very dark skies with extremely defined clouds. Shades of green among foliage can become strongly differentiated from neighboring shades of yellow, orange, or red, while light skin tones can be rendered as white or near-white. Additionally, this filter can also minimize the presence of haze caused by the bluish cast of daylight.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 65-071938 reviews

72mm Light Red SC 090 Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely image, as expected. Not so long ago I shot a black and white video without the benefit of a good red filter. It came out well, but after putting my camera through some test shots with this filter I really wish I had used one of these for that project. B&W has been my filter company of choice for a little while now, and this one did not disappoint. It does everything you should expect from the glass. Lovely image. Also, even a simple thing like packaging B&W does better than some other companies. I recently worked on a project where the producer had bought Tiffen filters for the cameras we were using and they came out of their cases with the paper info insert touching the glass - seems an obvious potential scratching hazard to me. Also, frankly, I think the image quality with a B&W is better than that produced by Tiffen.
