Compact and Close-Focusing
Move in close to capture stunning details with the E 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens from Sony. Designed to work with APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this lens offers a normal-length 45mm equivalent focal length that makes it useful for a wide variety of subjects and its unique macro capabilities mean it's also well-suitable for close focusing on nearby subjects.
Macro Capabilities and Focusing
  • True macro design affords a life-size, 1:1 magnification ratio along with a 3.7" minimum focusing distance and a 0.9" minimum working distance for capturing close-ups of your subjects.
  • Internal focusing design helps contribute to fast autofocusing speeds and prevents the lens' overall length from changing during use, helping to keep a consistent working distance when photographing close-up subjects.
  • Aperture range of f/3.5 to f/22 allows for operation in a wide range of shooting situations and enables photographers to better control depth of field.
Optical Design
  • One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Sony E 30mm f/3.5 Macro Reviews

Good lens. A bit fussy.

It's lightweight. Easy to pack. A good lens, but fussy on focusing, and also blurs out around the edges too far in. Can't say it's my favorite, but maybe if I work with it's idiosyncrasies I become more fond of it.

I've been looking for a macro lens that doesn't break the bank. When I stumbled across this lens, I was hesitant because the price was too good to be true being that it was a Sony manufactured lens. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It's a compact lens and it's perfect for wedding details, especially the ring shots! My clients were thrilled with the images I captured with this macro.

Good overall lens that can get real close too!

I'm a hobbyist just starting macro photography, and I've had a pretty good experience using this on my a6000. It's lightweight and not very clunky, so it's very easy to handle. I love the versatility of being able to capture something far away and then getting really really close without changing lenses. Manual focusing can be a bit of a burden, it takes a lot of turning to shift focus from far away to up close.

wow this was an amazing lens to get started with macro, especially if you are on a budget. it doesn't have image stabilization but nothing a tripod won't fix. if you have full sunlight i actually found hand held works just as well. be aware that 30mm focal length is short and it will block out light in most situations. i liked to use this lens outside since the sun was much better than artificial light. overall i had no problems and loved working with this lens.

I have been using this lens both by itself and with two extension tubes to take macro photos of a number items. I use a tripod and a focusing rail and the stacked photos are very good. At f/22 I am getting single photos that are sharp. I am ver satisfied with the lens and recommend it.

Love this lens!

I really wanted a Macro lens for my Sony alpha a7, but have been holding off because as a hobby I didn't need to spend $700 for a lens. I came across this one and finally got to use it and it's Amazing! We raised caterpillars this year and I was so happy that I could get beautiful photos of them. I bought a used one and I can tell you that I would never have thought it was used, it looked brand new. Seriously, great lens at such an affordable price.

Will this 30mm APS-C lens transfer image to a ...

Will this 30mm APS-C lens transfer image to a full frame sensor at 45mm? Will it still be able to go 1:1 on Full Frame sensor? What would min focus be on a Full Frame?
Asked by: GREGORY
This lens will be 45mm equivalent on a full frame Sony FE mount sensor camera. The issue is that less than half of the available megapixels will be used. It will be 1:1 and minimum focusing distance will be the same as on APS-C sensor. Minimum focusing distance and magnification does not change with sensor size.

Can anyone recommend a how-to resource for using this lens with Sony A6000? For example, when I press the shutter button, it zooms out.
Asked by: jeff
For regular photography, the Sony 30m f/3.5 lens should work like your other ones, except for the fact that it is a prime lens and doesn't zoom or change in angle-of-view. The lens itself doesn't zoom, but its focusing mechanism will shift forward and back in order to focus on the subject. Make sure to stay at least 3.74" / 9.5cm away (the lens' minimal focal distance) and it should autofocus without problem.
