Nikon 26229B overview

  • 1Description

Performance and convenience create a more perfect union with this Nikon CoolPix S80 Digital Camera (Blue)--an advanced point and shoot camera with a super high resolution 3.5" OLED display (819,000 dots) with touch screen controls for operating key camera operations just by touching the screen.

Performance is just as advanced as the convenience: start with 14.1MP high resolution and a 5x zoom lens (35mm equivalent 35-175mm) constructed from high quality Nikon ED glass, add a 5-way optical and digital image stabilization system and ISO up to 6400 for fabulous photos in low-light situations, and, oh yeah, don't forget the 720p HD video. Those are just the high points, of course.

There's also the Smart Portrait system with a Smile Timer to catch your subject's smile every time, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, which does just that, Face-Priority AF that recognizes and optimizes settings for faces in your pictures, Blink Proof that takes 2 quick shots and saves the one with open eyes, and Skin Softening to improve skin tones at 3 different levels.

Naturally, there's a lot more--17 scene modes to automatically adjust settings for specific situations, macro shooting as close as 2.8", and in-camera editing with Quick Retouch, Soft Focus, Selective Color, Fisheye effect, Miniature effect, and many more, all of it nicely packaged in a camera body only .7" thin. Yep, there're 6 yummy colors for the camera, too--if you care about how things look.

    Nikon 26229B reviews

CoolPix S80 Digital Camera (Blue) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't hold because of touch screen The camera is small and compact as a P&S camera should be. No battery indicator until battery is on the way out. No indicator as to how much is left on the film card. The camera is almost impossible to hold without clicking on some unwanted icon because of the touch screen. The camera must be held with only two fingers which make it very difficult to hold still. The touch screen is not nearly as good as it could be. Touch an icon and nothing happens. The icon has to be touched sometimes several times before the software will react. The camera should come with some sort of protective plastic covering for the touch screen which will scratch terribly after only a few weeks use. Images really noisy 800 iso or higher.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Camera for the price. I love this camera. It is small and thin, and shoots great images and pretty good video too. I needed a small camera to travel with when I cannot bring my 50D. This is our new vacation camera. Shot a video of live music and it came out great. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a case, to protect the screen from scratches and fingerprints. There are ones you can buy, but a standard one should come with it. Battery life is good, unless you are doing video. I reccomend buying a second battery so you are always prepared. Good camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of best new releases I use this camera for macro and general out and about photography and chose it especially as it's the first Nikon with AMOLED display. It turned out to be everything I was looking for!!! Nikon quality plus a viewing screen that has beautiful colour and is clearly visible outdoors in all lighting, even bright clear skies. It's image stabilisation works as well as any I've used and face recognition is quick and sure too.The only real hiccup I've found is when editing/deleting images in a series, the view goes right back to your last take and you need to navigate right back. Painful! It produces beautiful lifelike tonalities and fine colour balance. The current price at @ belies its quality - simply one of the best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera Love it's compact size. Image quality is top notch. It does take a bit of learning to get things right

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Choice! Very easy to use and always great quality from Nikon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, Bright, Wonderful I brought the S80 to primarily take pictures of projected slides and posters at some of the conferences that I attend. The ability to easily focus in low light conditions and produce clear and readable shoots is great - especially of scientific posters. The light weight and small size means this will travel with me very often. The downside is the battery life, but these are relatively quick to charge from laptop or socket. The best bit was the amazing price from B&H, well below anything I have seen from others or in ....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing camera Used it for not fancy photography, regular point and shoot uses. But over all a very good quality picture, nothing less than you'd expect from a Nikon camera. I love that it's so slim! You can carry it in your pocket! Still working with the touch screen, not that it's bad, it's just that I'm not really used to it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Camera-Just not for me. I ordered this camera with the intent of traveling with it, and casual photography. What really sold me was the fish eye capability and number of mega pixels. Upon arrival I found myself disappointed. The fish eye looks horrible, and the quality is just OK. I also did not like the touchscreen.
