Canon 4410B006AA overview

  • 1Description

The Extender EF 2X III from Canon is designed for select Canon EF mount L-series telephoto lenses. It increases the focal length of a lens by a factor of 2x while still delivering superb image quality. To ensure the best possible image quality in all shooting conditions, it combines redesigned optics, improved data communication between lens and camera and enhanced environmental protection. It is ideal for photojournalists and wildlife, nature and sports photographers who need to get close to distant and challenging subjects and it reduces the need to carry heavy telephoto lenses.

The Extender EF 2x III features nine optical elements in five groups, ensuring improved optical performance. All optical elements have Canon's Super Spectra coating to reduce ghosting and flare. A new Fluorine Coating on the front and rear elements makes marks, such as spots left by water or fingerprints, much easier to clean than standard coatings.

To facilitate the accurate transfer of imaging data between the lens and camera body, the extender features an integrated processor which ensures all focusing, metering and ID information is available - allowing the photographer to capture balanced, well-exposed images. When combined with the latest range of premium Canon L-series lenses, these extenders enable AF accuracy even when capturing moving subjects. When attached, the 2x extender reduces the effective maximum aperture by 2 stops.

A carefully positioned lens release mechanism also makes it easy to mount the extenders quickly, reducing the time that the camera and lens are exposed to the environment. The extenders offer the exceptional build-quality expected from Canon's professional products, and are resistant to both dust and water, allowing photographers to use them in extreme shooting conditions.

    Canon 4410B006AA reviews

Extender EF 2X III is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 501.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2x III is Nice and Sharp! I use the 2x III extender on my Canon EF 500mm f4 IS lens (original version). Works well. The combination produces sharp and contrasty images. I mostly use it for birds and wildlife. Camera is a 1D Mark IV. The 2x III doubles my focal length of my 500mm to 1000mm. The extender is light and slightly adds a little more weight to my setup. For the cost, it is the best way to get to 1000mm and produce sharp images. Bokeh is outstanding at f8. The combo of the 500mm and 2x III slows down focus, especially when I change distances dramatically. The lens hunts for the subject. I solve this by manually focusing to the zone and then let the AF kick in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceede my Expectations I acquired this extender to add length to my new 100-400mm L MII lens. I use it on my 7D. I knew from reading my manuals that AF is not possible so that is not an issue as I educated myself in this regard. But what images, I really cannot find fault with the image quality of this extender. It is like the lens and extender were designed for each other. Very sharp. Now obviously on very distant shots there is degradation but again I know this is due more to atmospherics than the lens. On shots within 1/2 mile absolutely incredible I recommend this extender for those who understand the AF limitations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must Have Accessory for EF 70-200 f/2.8 If you are already taking the time and effort to get the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II, then you should take just a little bit more to get this extender. While it does slow the lens down to f/5.6, the image quality is still great and that added bit of length adds versatility to a great lens. The extender-aided lens does not work as well in low light situations, which are few and far between for me but your mileage may vary. It is also worth noting that it does take a little bit of time to add or remove the extender, meaning that if you suddenly need to decrease your focal length again you might lose a shot or two if you need to act quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition This extender when paired with a high optical quality lens can yield sharpness very close to one of the long primes. I've paired it with the 300mm F2.8L IS II lens and a 7d mark II body to get almost 1000mm at f5.6. Image sharpness is very close to what I get with a 600mm f4. AF speed is very fast. It seems slow but due to the design it doesn't have to move AF as far so the net time to acquire focus is about the same. I use this set up with the 300mm to hike with. I can take it places I cannot go with the 600mm f4. Note that it will magnify a poorly performing lens. I definately recommend this if you have a need for occasional long distance photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent preformer Pairing the 2x TC III with the 300 2.8 IS ver 1 is a great way to get the benefits of a 600 mm 5.6 super tele without the weight. They work great, sharp, fast, most AF points. Appears more constantly sharp than the ser II 100 to 400, but very similar performance. The 2x TC converts the 100 to 400 to a slower f8 which elimates most of the AF points. Still great results with this combo on the 5d Mk III just limited to the center focus poin and four cluster around the center. It is a great, economical way to improve your reach for any application requiring 600 mm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Compliment to 135L I am using this 2X extender with my 135L, and I must say that after a little micro adjustment of +5, this is incredible! I now have a 270mm f/4 lens, and the images are very, very nice. Wide open (f/4), there is a little softness or dreamy effect, but stopped down to f/5.6, images are extremely sharp and contrasty. Yes, this will enhance any flaw in your lens, but with higher quality lenses, should not be much of an issue. AF is fast, I have not had any problems with its speed or accuracy. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this extender.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional, considering what it is doing I have owned the tc 2x II which was good, but this version seems a lot sharper and less CA, especially when used on a sharp lens to begin with. I am using it on a 70-200mm f4L IS with great results, even in the corners on zoomed in landscapes. The 1.4 version is supposed to be better, but I feel that going from a 200mm to a 280mm seems like a waste, like why bother? At least with the 2x you are doubling your focal length making any loss in quality worth it. If you have a very sharp lens to begin with I would recommend the version III lens over the version II.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2x III Extender I currently own both the 1.4x and the 2x Extender II. The 1.4 does a very nice job with my EF 70 - 200mm F4, EF 300mm F2.8, and my EF 500mm F4. The images are not quite as crisp as the lens without it however it is still pretty good. Images created using the 2x Extender II to me are unacceptable. I sent the 2x back to Canon for recalibration and it still is no good for my use. Recently I purchased the 2x Extender III and gave it a try. I found it noticeably better than my 2x Extender II however the photos do not compare to the original lens without an extender or even the lens with the 1.4 Extender. The photos are soft and lack detail. I did find the build quality of the 2x Extender III to be outstanding.
