Wide-angle prime utilizes one double-sided aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness throughout the aperture range.
Four anomalous partial dispersion glass elements help reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Aspherical element also contributes a compact design measuring 2.1 x 1.7".
Manual focus design affords a minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.
The front of the lens has 46mm-diamter threads to accept optional filters and the lens is male threaded to accept the included lens hood.

does this include the front cover ring and rounded lens cap like the Summilux 35mm Aspherical?
Asked by: Erick
The lens hood is rectangular in shape and is produced out of metal which is similar in design as the 35mm Summilux. Both have a plastic rectangular cap that snaps over the front of the lens hood. Neither the hood nor the cap is round on either lens. Also there is no front cover ring for the filter threads included with this lens.

question

To use this lens on an M-E must you use a special viewfinder?
Asked by: John H.
You do need a separate view finder to frame your shot correctly. The bad news is it is pricey. If I am not mistaken the M-E does not have Live View otherwise you could just use that. The good news is the EVF really does help a lot. Once you start using it, it is really hard not to use it. On the 21mm Super-Elmar this is my favorite lens. I use it a lot for landscape photography. It is really easy to focus for landscape photography given you are almost always at infinity. The lens it self if really sharp, compact and light. The only negative is the lens cap is a little gimmicky and comes off easily. Other than that great lens.

question

Do you consider this one of the best wide angle lens of all time? Compared to other leica wide angle lens? Including 28mm summilux?
Asked by: Anonymous
Difficult to say if this is the best of all time as I only shoot Leica and Nikon and don't have dozens of wide angles to compare it to. It is certainly a fine lens and among the variety of Leica lenses in my kit, this is certainly the sharpest. On a recent trip to Cuba, I shot for a week with basically two cameras and two lenses: M with the 21 and a D5 with 70-200. Nearly 7000 images later, I wouldn't have changed a thing. Hope this helps.
