X-Rite ColorMunki Overview

The black X-Rite ColorMunki Display is a calibration and profiling system that accurately portrays on your display / projector the color in your original picture or digital file. ColorMunki makes it quick and easy for you to calibrate and profile your displays. It features an advanced and ergonomic multi-functional measurement device, as well as easy-to-use software with simple one-click presets or wizard-driven options for more control.

The ColorMunki Display incorporates advanced filter and optical systems, fast measurement speed, and unrivaled color accuracy on all modern display technologies, including LED and Wide Gamut LCDs. It's also spectrally calibrated, which makes it field-upgradeable to support future display technologies. ColorMunki's ergonomic design incorporates three functions - ambient light measurement, monitor profiling, and projector profiling - into one sleek, compact, and fully integrated device with no parts for you to misplace. A custom-designed RGB filter set provides accurate color measurements, while the optical design allows for high rates of repetition on the same display and across different display types for more consistent color matching. There's even a rotating diffuser arm that can be used as a stand for table top projector profiling, ambient light measurement, or as a cover for instrument optics. The conveniently integrated tripod mount is great for projector profiling in larger venues.

The software features both 'Easy' and 'Advanced' options, so you can choose the one that's right for you. The wizard-driven interface guides you through the profiling process in small, easy-to-follow steps. No knowledge of color science is required - "Easy" mode is as simple as pushing a button, while "Advanced" mode provides additional pre-defined options for those users who want more color control. Before and after images show instant results and the handy profile reminder notifies you when it is time to re-profile your display. The on-screen help guides and videos are easy to understand and follow, so there are no extra manuals needed.

The Ambient Light Measurement tool automatically determines the optimum display luminance for comparing prints to your display, based on a measurement of the lighting conditions where the prints will be viewed. Ambient Light Smart Control lets you choose whether you want ColorMunki to automatically adjust your profile or simply notify you as ambient light conditions change. Flare Correct measures and compensates for reduced contrast ratios caused by flare light (glare) falling on the surface of your display. By accurately measuring your effective display contrast ratio, ColorMunki gives you a more precise display profile.

Intelligent Iterative Profiling is an adaptive technology that measures and analyzes the color capabilities of each unique display, in order to provide maximum accuracy every time you profile. The Automatic Display Control (ADC) feature adjusts your display's hardware to speed up its operation, eliminating manual adjustments--so there's less work for you.

This is a good product. The software is a bit confusing but you get the hang of it after a couple times. I unsure how to use the ambient light sensor cover or what that is for and the instructions/software doesn't explain. Also, I was hoping to calibrate my Ninja recorder but that requires a cable that is $100 which is a bit ridiculous. That of course is not this products fault but it does limit its useability.

I edit documentary films at my home studio, so it's super important for me to be able to color correct accurately at home, since we do all of our filming in the field where we may not have a ton of control over our lighting circumstances. ColorMunki Display allows me to be confident that what I see on my screen is REALLY what I see, and I can make good color decisions. Highly recommend!

This thing doesn't work!

This thing comes without the software in the box. Downloaded the software from the website and calibrated two dell monitors with my working PC and mac book pro monitor. They all went super green & yellow. This is awful and completely defeats the purposes of calibrating the monitors. When trying to register online, the website asked for the Colormunki version, serial number and registration code. Only serial no. could be found on the counterweight product label. Other information could not be found anywhere in the box. Even when reporting the problem to technical support is horrible. Will return this product.

I bought this on referral from some YouTube reviews. I didn't realize the software for it has been done away with. The new software that is supposed to work with this device doesn't work. I have tried to find tutorials on the new software and even the company can't send me one that is up to date. The screen prints don't match what the software does. Waiting on resolution from the company before I return this.

I'm not sure how much of a review this will be, since I have used the ColorMunki once, to calibrate a desktop monitor. I followed all the steps (not a difficult task), and am satisfied with what I achieved. My photos are a very nice match now between monitor and printer, with the only difference being a slightly brighter print than monitor. I'm happy.

It's my first monitor calibrator and of course I love it. Now I see true greys and other colors on my laptop screen. Calibration is pretty simple and in Youtube you'll find a lot of videos about this topics. Now I calibrate my monitor every important photojob I must to edit. Nice thing

Great Product in its day - WILL NOT WORK  W IOS Catalina

I used the devise successfully for years with my iMacs. However, it is not compatible with IOS Catalina operating system. The X-rite support page states this product is no longer supported. Too bad they do not support their products for longer periods of time.

It works on my Mac using MacOS 10.14.2 . According to x-rite's specifications published under the ColorMonki Display specifications, it works for MacOS X 10.11.x, 10.12.x and 10.13.x (with latest upgrades installed). Initially I experienced poor results with the calibration of my late 2012 iMac. The screen showed a very strong red color cast, until I found a link on x-rite's support website about how to calibrate older displays. In brief, select “White LED” for Technology Type if it is an Apple display manufactured after 2009. If your display is new 4K 21.5" or 5K 27" Retina iMac manufactured in Late 2015 or later, select "GB-LED (RG Phosphor)" for the Technology. Depending on the type of display, you may have to do some tweaking. But once it's done, it works beautifully.

Yes, I'm using it on an iMac 27 5K Display. However, there is one caveat, you will need to use a USB 2.0 hug plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the iMac to get it to work. This work around is straight from the manufacturer's help forums. Since I have a 27 Thunderbolt display attached to my iMac, I plug my ColorMunki into one of the USB 2.0 ports on that display (it's hooked up to the iMac via the Thunderbolt cable). Hope that helps.
