X-Rite EODIS3 Overview

  • 1Description

The X-Rite i1Display Pro is a calibration and profiling system for a display / projector. It helps to make sure that the colors on your display match those in your original picture or file. The i1Display features i1Profiler software for calibrating and profiling all modern display and projector technologies, including LED and Wide Gamut LCDs. It's also spectrally calibrated, which makes it field-upgradeable to support future display technologies. Using the free and downloadable ColorTRUE app for iOS and Android, the i1Display Pro may also be used to calibrate select phones and tablets.

The system's ergonomic design incorporates 3 functions - ambient light measurement, monitor profiling, and projector profiling - into a very sleek, compact and fully integrated device with no parts to misplace. Experience speeds up to 5X faster than previous devices! A custom-designed RGB filter set provides accurate color measurements, while the optical design allows for high repetition on the same display and across different display types for more consistent color matching. There's even a rotating diffuser arm that can be used as a stand for table top projector profiling, ambient light measurement, or as a cover for instrument optics. The conveniently integrated tripod mount is great for projector profiling in larger venues.

The i1Display offers both 'Basic' and 'Advanced' modes, giving you the power to choose which one is best for you. Basic mode offers a wizard-driven interface with predefined options for the quickest path to professional on-screen color. Advanced mode offers user-defined options for more sophisticated profiling workflows, to deliver the highest quality color results on monitors and projectors, as well as display testing and quality assurance tools.

Enjoy virtually infinite control of white point, luminance, contrast ratio, gamma and more, as well as multiple monitor and workgroup profiling. Intelligent Iterative Profiling is an adaptive technology that measures and analyzes the color capabilities of each unique display for increased profile accuracy. Create unique patch sets for optimal results in your profiling. Ambient Light Measurement automatically determines the optimum display luminance for comparing prints to your display, based on a measurement of the lighting conditions where the prints will be viewed. Ambient Light Smart Control performs measurement, compensation and ongoing monitoring of ambient lighting conditions, letting you decide whether you want the i1Display system to automatically adjust your profile or simply notify you as ambient light conditions change.

Flare Correct measures and adjusts your display profile for reduced contrast ratios caused by flare light (or glare) falling on the surface of your display. By accurately measuring your effective display contrast ratio, you'll have a more precise display profile. 3 patch set sizes - small, medium, or large - allow you to increase your profile accuracy by measuring a higher number of patches. Choose your own combination of patch set size, extracted colors from specific images and/or PANTONE spot colors selected from the included PANTONE Color Manager software. The Automatic Display Control (ADC) technology automates the adjustment of your display's hardware, including brightness/backlight, contrast, and color temperature, in order to speed up the profiling process and eliminate manual adjustments--so there's less work for you!

You can re-use profile settings on multiple displays connected to the same computer or to multiple computers within a workgroup. Before and after images show instant results, and the handy profile reminder lets you know when it's time to re-profile your display. Easy-to-follow on-screen help guides and videos mean there are no extra manuals needed.

When it comes to display quality assurance, this system can perform visual validation using pre-defined and user defined images. It can also do measurement-based validation in 3 different ways: Using industry standard targets and reference data sets (like SWOP, Gracol and Fogra), using PANTONE color and libraries, or using colors extracted from user defined images. You can also take advantage of user defined PASS/FAIL deltaE tolerance for average and maximum values. Additionally, the i1Display Pro features color accuracy trending over time. For a display uniformity test, measure white point and luminance uniformity over 9 locations on your display, and take control with user defined PASS/FAIL tolerance.

    X-Rite EODIS3 Reviews

i1Display Pro is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 439.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I am a professional photographer with years of color management experience. I was in need of a new screen calibrator and decided to get a camera and screen calibrator combination by X-rite. Wow. What a let-down. The screen calibrator was less than intuitive and didn't achieve a good 6500k balance. Finally had to push the balance to 7000k to make it look like a good 6500k. The one really great thing was the 24 color checker by X-rite but their software for making a camera profile made skintones come out reddish and contrasty. Get the Adobe DNG profile editor and use it with the 24 color checker for excellent profiles. Its FREE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I am not expert in color but i do want my screen to be calibrated so that i know that my prints will match what i see on my computer. Instructions and even customer support is not very explanatory. There are a lot of features that you will need to either figure out yourself by watching video tutorials or by reading about color correction and properties. I am not sure that you will be ok by just setting it up on basic mode and just clicking next every time with out changing any setting. With this being said, after a bit of struggle with the product, i ordered a book from Blurb and my pictures came out just as i saw them on my screen. So I am pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for the working professional It doesn't matter what your field is as long as you make money from working on your computer (if colors are involved)... you need to get your monitor calibrated. This is a must have for any Graphic Designers, Web Designers, Photographers, Videographers, Architects, (the list goes on). Everyone should have a properly calibrated monitor in my opinion. I like that its so darn easy to use too. All it takes is installing the app and plugging the i1 to a USB port and following the step by step instructions in the app (5 minutes tops) to have accurate color representation on screen. You would be surprised by the color shift you might have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color Calibration & Luminosity Key to Great Prints I had an i1 Display2 that I purchased quite while back but it was outdated and no longer supported by X-rite. So I upgraded to the i1 Display Pro. I will admit that I did a lot of prep work before purchasing (i.e. watching videos, tutorials, reading reviews and even talking to the folks at X-rite who were very helpful). I looked at the ColorMunki offering as well but ultimately decided on this alternative. I found it very easy to set up using the advanced option straight out of the box . The color calibration as well as (and particularly) the luminosity adjustments were just what I needed. My screen was too bright and as a result the prints were darker than what was being seen on screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with BenQ Thanks to Frank Doorhof for recommending this calibrator. Works great with BenQ 27 photography monitor for hardware calibration. I also tried the normal software calibration to compare results. Photos compared to prints looked the same by using either method. Software used by BenQ is very similar to the X rite software so it can be used on other monitors without another learning curve. My previous calibrator was a Spyder 4 which was giving unreliable calibration after 3 years. This was a normal life span for it but the Spyder was a bigger pain to use & also had given me bad calibrations which had to be redone. So for the i1Display Pro is spot on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Older usb 2.0 I work with two computers.(Desktop& laptop PC) Install was easy on my newer PC and worked as described. Encountered a problem when attempting to install on older PC (3years old). The desktop PC would not recognize the i1display pro unit and found out that was because the USB had a compatibility issue. the Xrite website does describe problem but left me trying to figure out alternative next steps because I didn't want to buy an adapter. So I uninstalled software and found out that by not installing the new update desktop PC was able to recognize the device. Sharing in case you find you have that problem as well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Device! I have a less-expensive monitor that I use a lot for photo and video editing.  It is made by LG and was way too bright and way too far into the blue spectrum.  I got this for my birthday and used it and immediately every looked so much better!  Using it in the advanced mode was pretty easy after watching a couple youtube tutorials and it made all the difference in the world for my editing.  Not only that, the monitor causes me significantly less eye strain.  I highly recommend one of these if you are slightly technically inclined and can do a small amount of research to make sure you set it up correctly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product, poor documentation After getting Display Pro to work (which took a lot of trial and error), I would rate its performance as Good, though a notch less than excellent. The print now looks pretty close to what the screen shows, though the colors are still slightly off. The reason it took a lot of effort to get it to work at all is that there is no documentation to speak of in the box, and the disc has multiple websites it suggests you try. I finally found an article by x-rite called Monitor Profiling with i1 Profiler which was detailed and quite helpful. Even here though, what actually happens during profiling isn't exactly what the article indicates. As a result, when finished, the user is unsure he is.

    question

I have my Eizo Color Edge CG223W connected to a 2012 Mac Tower. Before I had to disconnect the monitor cable and connect the monitor with a USB to be able to calibrate. Is this still the case with the newer units?
    Asked by: Jesse G.
Considering everything is in perfect working condition, no. You do not need to have the monitor plugged via USB in order to be calibrated

March 2016: Is there an update on whether it will calibrate the Hp Dreamcolor LP2480zx monitor? Previous posters have stated that it does not because the software has not been updated, but those were from last year.

    question

I have read that Dell U2413 wide gamut monitor uses its own Dell software to calibrate. Is that so?
    Asked by: Robert W.
Correct because only dells calibration software contains specific drivers for these Dell monitors. So you would only get software calibration not hardware from the x-rite included application. You would have to pair it with dells Dell UltraSharp Calibration Solution to get a desired result.
