Photoflex SB-FLXFLSH200W Reviews

FlexFlash 200Ws Strobe is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish I had bought two at this price! This monolight flash is a great buy for both the features and the price. It performs like the bigger and more expensive units. I use it in studio and outdoors (with a generator) and it works great. Digital, adjustable outputs for both the strobe and modeling light coupled with both a flash sensor trigger and the wired direct flash trigger make it very vesatile and simple. Almost no learning curve with this flash. It even will automatically sense how many pre-flashes your particulat speed light sends while your camera is evaluating the scene, so you get perfect sync with your speed light if you are using one. Can't say enough about this unit!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ight Weight Lights I have only had the lamps now for about 10 days. they seem to be well built and easy to use. I have them for studio lighting of industrial products that I photograph for my clients. At this point I want to pick up a couple of soft boxes for them, but have to watch the budget as this is a sideline/hobby opportunity. I am checking with one of my machine shops to see if they can produce a locking ring for the bayonet mount on the lamp front. This will allow me to make different diffusers that can be quickly fit to the lamps. Would be a nice accessory to have if it could be purchased with the lamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy again I'm using this light for simple portraits inside. It's compact and portable enough to take on location with me. The controls are so robust, I didn't expect to be so pleased because I got such a deal in the deal zone here on B&H. I've done a couple portrait sessions and am also pleased with the flash's built in sync capability. I've used both the PC cord and a low power on camera bounce flash to trigger it and both work just fine. I've not needed full power for my set up, actually haven't exceeded 1/4 power at ISO 200. Nice light, wish I had ordered two while they were on special.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Strobe! I got this strobe when it was on the deal zone for only $139! And after using it on a location shoot...I can say with full confidence I will be getting more at full price. The recycle time seems to be faster than the stated 1.5 seconds and the level adjustment buttons are sensitive enough. All in all a wonderful strobe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for the money I am setting up a photo studio at my work. This was a Daily Deal item on B&Hs website (so I paid less that half it's retail price). It is a GREAT value even for the full price. I bought 2 to start with. It includes the modeling light (continuous) and the strobe (flash) light bulbs, the protective cover and the 7 reflector. When I received it the 7 reflectors were not in the box. Called B&H and customer service was great. Very responsive! They contacted the manufacturer and immediately sent me the 7 reflectors. The materials are of good quality. Includes everything that I needed (minus the stand). When I received the lights. Haven't used the lights in a shoot yet but have been playing with them. You will need at least a camera with a flash that will work in conjunction with the light sensor on the back of the flash unit. I chose to purchase a transceiver (the PocketWizard III) for your camera and each of the light units to allow for foolproof communications between the camera and the flash units. So far am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought 3 units one was DOA. I wanted to use the 3 units abroad were the voltage is 220v because of the auto voltage 90-260 volts , unfortunately one was DOA try to get a replacement from B&H was told it was discontinued. It was on sale but I did not know it was being closeout. Have to send one in to be repaired, how long , who know? I would have given it a 5 stars if all the units were working.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOA I purchased 2 FlexFlash units - this 200w one and the 400w equivalent. The rest of this review is based on the experience with the 400w unit, but because the 200w arrived DOA, I have to issue a single star. B&H is shipping a replacement unit to me, but until then, 1 star. Alright, reviewing the 400w unit: I was enticed to purchase this flash because it was the B&H deal of the day. Had been considering purchasing a flash for some time. I'm a video producer by trade, but have considered venturing into some portrait photography on the side mostly for hobby. So take this review for what it's worth - a guy who's primarily experienced with continuous lighting, venturing into photo (strobe) lighting for the first time. I have shopped around, and this light seemed to be the most flexible in terms of on-board settings, add on filters, and portability for it's power. Really love being able to dial in specific settings on the back of this unit - perfect for setting up repeatable session lighting. Build quality is great, really seems to be sturdy. I hope to get a lot of use out of this unit for many years.
