Comprehensive CHE-1 Reviews

CHE-1 1-Port HDMI Extender Over Single Cat 6 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent Unit The quality is good. Units are made of metal, good. Quality of the transmission is good. One warning: It only works over one CAT5/6 cable. If you connect 2 or more cables together, it will not work. If you need to extend the distance, you can use longer hdmi cables at the beginning OR end. The middle of course is cat5/6 at 50m. It is always a good debate to have with oneself as to whether to run hdmi repeaters OR some other tech that should power the main part of the cable connection. Before you install this, test them with a cable length the same as to the install. This way you can see what will happen before a lengthy install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good price/quality point Used to transmit about 65' in our church youth room with no problems from multiple devices to our projector for about 2 months now.? POE is convenient, and I think this is a good option for those looking for better reliability than the $30 devices without shelling out $300 for the high-end stuff.? The reason I took off a star is that it took me more than an hour of trial and error to dial in the EQ settings so it would work reliably with a range of devices and output ports.? Still, the fact that it has adjustable settings to improve connection reliability is a plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth way more than the selling price! You could pay more for an HDMI cable. In fact, 5 years ago, a similar item cost me $600. You can't beat this for the price. Will run perfectly sync'ed HD video hundreds of feet with no loss. Solid metal body will not break even if you stand on one. And best of all, you only need a single run of CAT5, 5e, or 6. Kit comes with everything you need.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value for the money I supervise a large university's equipment, and have found that the addition of the CHE-1 to our inventory has given us much need flexibility in our HD projection setups, with the use of this product in our State Ballroom we have been able to supply HiDef 1080i resolution to multi projector configurations.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Video But No Audio I was so hoping to use it to split the HDMI output from a TiVo to two TVs. The product sounds so promising and the reviews were great, however: 1. You must have a dedicated Ethernet cable between transmitter and receiver. It will not operate through a switch. 2. Worked for about one minute sending and receiving good quality audio and video, than for some unknown reason the video continued to be seen but the audio dropped out. 3. Other than a lit red LED indicating power, there is no indication of Ethernet connectivity. To be fair, the cause MAYBE that the transmitter input was fed from one leg of an HDMI splitter and perhaps it's not designed to pass signal through a splitter. Nonetheless, it's too complicated for my expertise so unfortunately I will be returning it for a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job This extender works as advertised. No problems hooking it up. Video and audio signal to HD projector are perfect. I purchased two of these to use in our conference rooms and they are doing the job. Well worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product I run an AV installation and rental company, and we have used many products like this one over the last few years. I have found the CHE-1 to be a very cost effective way to transport HDMI over long cat5e/6 runs. We have had only 1 failure of the units weve installed, and our records show we have installed 234 of them at the time I'm writing this. That unit was easily swapped out with no issues. The picture quality is excellent, comparable to 2-wire units costing a lot more. HDMI baluns do not always retain the rich color of the source signal, however it has never been an issue with these units. Excellent color, excellent performance. I find this product to be dependable, fairly priced, and of high quality. Specs: 2 input HDMI ports, with a dip switch to select which you want to use. 150 feet max run We recommend using cat6, if possible, with longer runs. Note: Some reviews complain that this unit is not compatible with an ethernet switch, or router. This is true. However, I will make the statement that just because a device uses a Cat5/6 connector (RJ-45) does not mean it is an ethernet device. Many types of technology use the RJ-45 connector and Cat type cables due to their low cost and ease of installation. This is a balun, not a netwrking device. If you want a networkable HDMI device, you need to check out a 100BASE-T compatible video system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDMI over 70' I am running two projectors, two monitors and two 60 TV's from two AMD video cards on a dell desktop. The TV's are 70' away in cable length and I was leary of getting an HDMI cable that long. I found the CHE-1 on B&H and that along with 70' cat 6 made this a breeze to set up. There is no flicker, delay, or loss of resolution. It works like it was intended to. I don't have any cons, it is a great product.
