Genaray SP-AD75 Overview

  • 1Description

With a beam angle of 60°, the SpectroLED-14 Light from Genaray is composed of a daylight-balanced fixture equipped with 1140 LEDs. The round 14.5" light provides 10-100% dimming with a maximum power output of 75W.

In a field dominated by rectangular or square arrays, Genaray has made the wise choice of making their studio lights circular. Not only does the increased surface area have more wrap-around light characteristics but the shape renders pleasing, natural-looking catchlights in your subject's eyes. And if you're doing portraiture, you can soften the SpectroLED-14's output by slipping the included 3/4 stop diffusion sock over the reflector. Heat is never a concern since the cool-running LEDs are barely warm to the touch.

Another way to soften the quality of light is to use the umbrella socket that is built into the mount. You can use reflective or translucent umbrellas for bounce or shoot-through effects. The socket accepts 7 or 8 mm shafts and the mount has a 65-degree tilting range for perfect placement.

Power is provided by an included multi-voltage power supply and adapter that accepts 100-240 VAC. The inclusion of a cigarette lighter adapter cord also gives you the option of using 12V batteries for convenience or location shooting. You can run the SpectroLED-14 for approximately 70 minutes on an average fully charged battery. Not only are you saving money every time you use the SpectroLED-14 due to its low current draw, but with a 50,000-hour lamp life the SpectroLED-14 is virtually maintenance-free. The light mounts to any compatible 5/8" baby pin stand and can be operated with an optional remote dimmer that connects via a 12.8' cable.

  • Round, 14.5" LED fixture with daylight color temperature of 5600K
  • Beam angle of 60° for versatile use as a main or secondary light
  • Accepts an included 3/4 diffusion sock that goes over the reflector and optional umbrellas via a dedicated socket
  • Can be dimmed from 10 to 100% with on-board control knob
  • Runs on 100-240 VAC power with included adapter, or on optional batteries via D-tap connection
  • Mounts to any compatible light stand with standard 5/8" baby pin

Genaray SP-AD75 Reviews

SpectroLED-14 LED Light is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 96.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy product; worse customer service I used this product two times. The first time it was fine. The second time it died entirely with no warning. Genaray took weeks to return my emails, and eventually sent a new fuse (which didn't help), and then after several more emails, a new power supply. That didn't help either. After more emails (and weeks), they finally sent an address to send it for repair or exchange. I sent the package, and after three weeks it was returned by the carrier because nobody at Genaray would accept the delivery. This thing is a piece of junk. If you buy it, just pray that it breaks in the first 30 days so B&H will replace it and you don't have to deal with the manufacturer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great, for about 1 year only... These lights worked great, for a while. They are super light-weight and portable. The optional battery packs make shooting at night in the woods super easy. And then...... The SpectroLED14 heads are falling apart entirely: screws fell out all the time, dimmer-switch stopped working, power adapters are starting to fail, the cord socket is really loose, and even on the battery packs, the lights don't work. Replacing the fuse had no effect. I still use the 9 LED on the batteries but I will never buy the 14 ones again. If you buy this, enjoy it, but, baby it. The power units are VERY fragile and the head loose tiny screws all the time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from High frequency whistle annoying I really like these lights as far as the quality of light and the durability of the lights themselves - I've knocked them over and even though dented, still work great. But the high frequency whistling when dimming them is very very annoying. Not sure if dogs could stand it. All three of them in my kit do it, so it must be just the way it is with their dimming circuitry. Doesnt matter if I use the built-in or remote dimmer. The other thing is what others have mentioned is the cheap feeling power supplies and connectors. I had one power supply just go bad already after only a couple months. Looking for a replacement. Thank God for the 12-volt cable that came with it - saved my butt at a recent shoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad Got these for College students to use for video projects. The head seems well built, but not sure about the plastic mount which gives me doubts about the durability. The lights are bright with an EV of 10.6 ISO 100 @ 3ft, with the diffuser sock EV 9.1. To me the light was very harsh, improved by using the sock, but I would not like to spend much time with these pointed at my face. Do not look directly into the lights or you will see 1,144 litle bright spots for quite awhile after. Not unhappy with the lights and purchased as a two light kit the price was very resonable. Time will tell how they hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected These are great for small interviews. Better than average construction for the money, flicker-free operation when shooting in normal frame rates. The cable I got from the wall to the power supply was 16' long itself! Unbelievable! The cable from the power supply to the transformer was a respectable 8', so you have quite a lot to work with. They produce a nice 1' beam, which can be expanded with the use of a shoot through umbrella. I wouldn't hesitate using them as constant photographic lights for still photography. I only wish the car adaptor cable to light unit was longer. These are only about 7' long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect, but slight annoyance First the upside: excellent build quality, superb output, astounding value. Now, about the only downside I've experienced: On both of my units, when dimming down between roughly 20% and 80%, I notice a subtle but slightly annoying very high-pitched hum coming from the light. Any level below 20% or above 80% is perfect, yet in that roughly 60% range, there's a definite hum within a few feet of the light ... loud enough that my talent has asked what the noise was as they walked past it. Still, I'm willing to forgive this annoyance, because otherwise this LED bank is simply amazing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lights, Bright as the Sun Got this for on the road interviews (video) and they are really nice. I like the fact they plug in instead of batteries, as we have been on shoots and watch the LED's dim while shooting. This is a bit of a bulky kit and because the bigger lights are 15 in diameter, finding a case was a bit of a challenge. The power packs are large and heavy too, so pretty much no matter what, you're probably gonna pay more at the airport. That would be the reason I don't say 5 stars. For studio or stationary use, I'd say they would be amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful quality and quantity of light Studio and table top product photography. Mostly vegetables for seed companies and hardware store supplies. This lamp is very light weight, easy to maneuver, does not heat up at all and the light is close to daylight balanced. With a little tweaking of the camera color balance settings my photographs needed very little post processing. Since my subjects move very little I can play with the lighting and not worry about unnoticed reflections and unwanted highlights with speed lights. What I see is what I get! I have no complaints.
