JVC GZ-R440DUS Reviews

Everio GZ-R440DUS Quad-Proof HD Camcorder (Orange) is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Camcorder I've Ever Used! I bought this camcorder thinking it was going to be an upgrade to my JVC GZ-HD620BUS camcorder, boy was I mistaken! Other than supposedly being waterproof, this camcorder is horrible. The gain is either on or its off, there's no automatic setting for gain which means the video ends up looking really grainy! I thought it was a low-light problem at first but its just as horrible in really good sunlight! I don't feel like turning the GAIN off and wasting my time in Adobe Premiere color correcting and adjusting the contrast and brightness for every single video! The 40x zoom sucks something fierce! Sure you can zoom to 40x but its a blur fest even on a tripod! The touchscreen is fine but I prefer buttons instead of putting finger prints all over the screen making a mess out of it (I film outdoor agriculture videos and my hands aren't always clean). My 2010 JVC GZ-HD620BUS camcorder (made in Japan) puts the GZ-R440 (made in Thailand) to shame and that's really sad seeing how is its 8 years old. I won't ever buy another JVC product again seeing how their quality has went down the toilet since they are no longer made in Japan! Maybe a Canon G21 will work out better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from purchased as older Everio replacement Being familiar with the Everio product, I like this because of the zoom. From the Yosemite Valley I can zoom to view the climbers on El Capitan. Like the internal battery makes less bulky. Has always been my go to camcorder since retiring my Sonys. Only 4 stars because of the zoom control being a rocker forward and back vs. side to side. The action has a tendency to move the camera more. Other negative is the touch screen controls, previous versions had soft touch buttons around the screen. Would recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT Buy - shoots in i not p This camcorder shoots Interlaced (i) video.  You want a camcorder that records Progressive (p) video.  Look for 1080p.  Avoid 1080i.  Interlaced is for VERY OLD TVs. Among the problems: creates VERY JAGGY images if you pause.

Can camera be used with a tripod and if so what do you recommend
Asked by: Cathie B.
Yes the jvc 440 has a standard threaded hole for tripodsI use a velbon challenger. Figure out how high a TP you need, and check a few in a real store for quality.
