The Focal Press lighting guide, Focus on Lighting Photos: Focus on the Fundamentals, by Fil Hunter and Robin Reid, is another helpful photography tutorial from this popular series of books. The two authors break down lighting into easy-to-understand chapters, which then take you through the aspects of lighting with tips, assignments, and color photos that demonstrate the examples outlined in the book. Questions about exposure and when and where to use what light are explored, as are questions about mood and when to use a flash, among others.

About the Authors:
Fil Hunter is a highly respected commercial photographer specializing in still life and special effects photographs for advertising and editorial illustration. During a career spanning over three decades, he has worked for such clients as America Online, US News, Time-Life Books, Life Magazine (27 covers), the National Science Foundation, and National Geographic.

Robin Reid has had a varied career first as a classically trained pianist, then a professional dancer, and later as a photographer. She works extensively out of her studio in the Washington DC area. Her work includes product photography for the US Supreme Court Gift Catalog, American Diabetes Forecast, Network Marketing, and others. She has taught studio portraiture in her studio for years for the Alexandria Art League. She continues to do all of her own photographic printing (both traditional darkroom and digital). She is also a graphic designer, with a special interest in book layout.
