Excelling at close distances, the AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G from Nikon is a 60mm-equivalent macro prime offering a 1:1 life-size maximum magnification along with a 6.4" minimum focusing distance. Benefitting both close-up shooting as well as working at greater distances, the optical design uses a Close Range Correction system that maintains consistent image quality and sharpness throughout the focusing range. Individual elements also feature a Super Integrated Coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity and harsh lighting conditions. Additionally, complementing the imaging capabilities, a Silent Wave Motor affords fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override, to benefit both stills and video applications.

Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Reviews
Used it with ES-2 adapter. Economic option.
Worked will with the digitizer adapter. Haven't tried it yet for Macro, but like specs. Liked price option.
Great value for money!
If this macro lens was to be rated solely in terms of value for money it would clearly be a top choice. I purchased it primarily for use in a film scanning setup with my old, reliable D7000 and the combo works superbly. This 40mm jewel renders tack sharp, balanced contrast images that, frankly, surprised me considering its modest price. Nikon has apparently not compromised the optics at all in an effort to produce an affordable yet excellent product. Sure, the lens body sports a fair amount of plastic and its focusing barrel is less than silky smooth in operation when compared with a ruggedized "pro" instrument costing three times as much, but for "informal" use as a normal or macro picture taker, I doubt that you can do better.
Just what I needed.
Thanks Nikon for another win. I shoot my hobby which is 1/64th scale diecast customs and dioramas. I needed a micro lens to get the clearest shot. Found it! This lens is just perfect. Nikon refurbished, you did not disappoint. Looking forward to many shoots and great pics! Cost effective and fast shipping makes this B&H transaction a pleasure. Thank you.
Excellent for Close-Up Detail
I needed a lens that worked well for photographing jewelry and precious stones. I hadn't been happy with shots I was getting with my other lenses. The NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Lens turned out to be perfect for my needs
Made in dictatorship of China
It's built more cheaply than my 18-70 nikon kit lens that came with my d70 years ago. Optically very nice. Focus is almost silent and pretty quick for macro lens. I wish b&h would add where its made in the specs. My partner works for the dept of defense. Trust me, you guys will be sorry if you continue to empower China. Thinking of returning lens but B&h is such a top notch company I may not trouble them and jjust keep shooting this excellent piece of plastic.
Micro 40
Needed something as machined like a watch to shoot a watch... working great.
Nice Micro Lense
Needed a macro-Lense and this works.
Good for Purpose
Purchased specifically for use with the Nikon ES-2 Film Digitizing Adapter. Lens works well with he ES-2 and allows for proper framing and focus for turning slides or negatives to digital.
