  • 1Description

The Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light is a daylight-balanced LED light with 144 LEDs and a CRI rating 85 that is equivalent to a 125 W light. The fixture is dimmable from 100% brightness down to 25% without flicker or significant color shift. It includes a diffusion filter that will bring the color temp down to 5500K, and the included amber filter further converts the color temp to 3200K, perfect for use with tungsten lights.

Featuring a cold shoe foot with a built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole, the fixture provides flexible solutions for mounting to your camera. The body of the light features a cold shoe on both sides and on the top that allows you to mount other lights or accessories, not included, to the fixture. The light will run for up to 80 minutes of off six readily available AA batteries, or you can power it from an optional power supply for extended run times.

    Bescor LED-125 reviews

Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable On-Camera Light is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 108.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY Cheap components and poorly made. I was sorely dissappointed by this product, so I took it apart to see what was going on. I am an electical engineer, so after about 30 minutes of tinkering (and a couple resolders) I was able to get it working reasonably well. Bottom line this is a poorly made product; the potentiometer to adjust the brightness is reveresed (so when you try to turn the brightness up is actually goes dimmer, and vice-versa). This could not be an accident as the piece can only be assembled one way. Additionally my unit would flicker. This was the result of poor soldeing of components. Bottom line: don't buy. I have bought other Bescor products in the past, and they were pretty good, but this one was very bad, and far too glitchy to justify the $price tag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light for the money This is a nice light for the money. It's pretty powerful and I like the dimmer control. Many people are complaining about it being plastic and flimsy. What do you want at this price? These people must be really hard on their gear. I have other plastic gear that has lasted a while so far. I can see if it's for news because gear really takes a beating. But since I started doing my own productions I haven't had an issue with gear braking because I am much more careful with it. If you're looking for a good light on a budget I would recommend this light. If you are hard on your gear you might want to consider a more expensive metal light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent LED Light I use this light for video shooting and it is a decent value for the money. It doesn't throw out a lot of light, but when shooting close up, it gets the job done. I would say it's drawbacks are: limited output wattage, cheap plastic feel (it's a Chinese knock off) & lack of ability to switch between daylight & tungsten. It's strengths are: dimmable output between 10% & 100%, a gel is included to switch between daylight & tungsten, but it's one or the other & not a dimmable feature, it included a mini hot shoe adaptor so you can use the unit with cameras, such as the Canon Vixia, that have a smaller hot shoe.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Weenie of a light. I cheaped out and bought this light. I didn't go with my experience and have only myself to blame. The throw of the light is OK if your subject is within 5ft. The light pattern is not very wide. So if you are looking for a nice even light this is not for you. If you put diffusion over the light to make a more even light pattern now you have knocked down the light intensity which is not a lot to begin with. One other major disappointment was the dimmer. It does not dim! OK if you look real hard you might see it. My camera couldn't tell the difference. This light is only useful for amateur home movies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Somewhat disappointed Received the light a couple of days ago. I'll compare it to a CN160 LED light. Pro's of the Bescor: Better build quality, nice weight, good illumination. Con's of the Bescor: Only AA batteries, no Sony or Panasonic batteries can be used. The filters supplied rattle in the housing. To avoid unwanted noise you have to tape them into place, hardly ideal. The dimming range is limited. The lowest light intensity is still too high for my taste. The flood angle is too limited. The lack of an adjustable angle for the light is missed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive I used two of these during a recent indoor wedding. - White balance looks good in post-production. - Good throw w/minimum fall-off. - Controls are easily accessable. - The shoe mount and 1/4 screw receiver are a welcomed asset as I can use one for on camera and the other on a separate tri-pod as a fill light. I hope to get some great milage from them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The good the bad and the ugly (colors) The good. This light is cheap, light, attractive, and really is 125 watt equivalent. I tested it near and far against my Lowel 100 watt IDlight with a fresh battery, and this little LED actually produces 1 stop more light, 6300k light, but more of it. The dimmer actually works well too. The battery hatch closes tight and gives the whole thing a completed and tidy appearance. The bad. The actual light color measured by my broadcast camera is 6300k clear, 5200k with the 4300k filter. What this means is that this light will not match any other light source you will come across save for bright sunlight, which sort of defeats the purpose of needing a light. The 4300k filter is actually PINK, not ORANGE. I don't know if they packaged the WRONG filter, or just mis-advertise, but you loose 1 stop of light using it, and it is actually closer to daylight (5600k) than without, plus it has the diffusion pattern on it as well. This light is best used as a cheap indoor daylight fill, or on any camera that has a full time auto white balance. The light does drop 300-400k when dimmed down, but at these color temps, you really won't be able to see a shift. I was planning on buying the Bescor YELLOW 3200k filter, but I have no faith it will be 3200k, so I will find some gel whatever, and cut and paste onto the clear filter they provide. The power switch is extremely small, and operates upside down. It's smaller than the HyperBASS switch on an old Walkman, and recessed into the back far enough that it does not protrude. Just remember, once you find the switch, on the RIGHT side of the unit, flip up for off and down for on. Thank God they didn't put the switch and dimmer dial on the left side, you can imagine how inconvenient that would be! Please don't bump the light while it is attached to anything. As with all of these lights, the plastic feet will most likely snap right off, as they are made of cheap brittle material. Looking at the baser, it appears that you may be able to replace the shoe mount part, as it is two pieces, one inside, and one outside, that come together on each side of the main housing. I will check with Bescor if this part is available, would mean you could just fix instead of replacing the entire unit. Color temperature and esthetics aside, I did not expect this tiny cheap light to outshine my $255 100 watt unit. I bought this mainly to use on a tiny 1 lb Handycam during twilight and night, and since it has AWB, this light turned out to be the perfect choice. If you want even more light, and don't mind the weight of an additional 2 AA batteries, and maybe a few mm's size dimensionally, Bescor makes a 180 version of this device! As a final note, the stacking slots on all sides can be used to mount other items, such as a small microphone......I like that.
