XT Flash Extender Kit for CANON 430EXI use the product for fill-flash during daytime nature photography, and for lighting poorly lit daytime situations, like when trying to capture small birds in the woods. It seems to offer more even lighting than the Better Beamer, and is MUCH easier to attach. But it is not quite as travel-friendly as the Beamer, since the XT does not fold down. as does the Beamer.

This thing actually works! The XT flash extender does exactally what is says it does. It projects a nice beam of light out to about 100 feet. In daylight this makes for a very nice fill light on your subject. I have not tried it in lower light situations yet. It might be a little strong and harsh if used as only light source in a low light situation. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is that it is not very compact. They do give you a pouch to hold the frensel lens in, but the unit itself is pretty bulky. Overal a very good product that does what it is intended for.

Overall - A Good ValueI have had the Better Beamer for almost 3 years and I was tired of the stupid little velcros coming off. I was actually gluing them back on to extend the useful life of the magnifying lens. Not to mention when I go through the woods or in marshes, branches and reeds like to bang it around or snag in the space between the flash and the lens in because the better beamer is big and its open in the center. I have suffered scartches and tears because the magnifying lens isn't protected. Additionally I have little melt spots on my flash from light coming through the lens back towards me. Its so time consuming to breakdown and set up that I looked for another solution and found the Harbor Digital design attractive. I have not been dissapointed. Its light and compact. It attaches and detaches quickly. And despite its size it is easy to stow and go. I wear a fleece or sweatshirt with a pouch picket in the center. Fits in there no problem. In the field when I am dressed in lighter clothes, I put it in a grocery back and hang it from my tripod when on the move. Its more accurate in focusing the flash than the better beamer, and it is enclosed which supports and protects the magnifying lens so you don't have to buy more. I think the better beamer projects a little further, but you can compensate for this by changing the setting on your flash. With better beamer I shoot at -1 flash exposure compensation and with the Harbor Digital I usually do too, but I have pupmed it up to 0.

Works greatI purchased this after tearing my 3rd Better-Beamer Fresnel. This extender has a smaller profile that is less likely to get tangled on brush and fall off the flash. The quality and quantity of the light beam seem comparable, and the closed design minimizes the chance of scorching your lens or lenscoat when the sun is behind you. Great product.
