I want to record nature sounds (bird calls, lion roars, etc) with this shotgun mic from a distance of 500m. Will I be able to record good quality sound 500m away in perfect conditions?
Asked by: Stephen
No, it will not, and 500 meters is going to present significant challenge. In order to record from a distance you will want to use a parabolic collector with a good mic, but, this method will allow capture from a distance of up to 600', which is only about 200 meters. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1380830-REG/klover_km26te_flight_case_with_pull.html

Can I output this mic to any recording device such as zoom h4n? And how do I power the breakout box?
Asked by: Beauharnais
The Schoeps SuperCMIT 2U Digital Shotgun Microphone with Mini-DA42 Converter can be used with an audio recorder, but it requires three analog XLR inputs and the Zoom H4n Pro has only two. The included Mini-DA42 Digital Microphone Powering Box and D/A Converter requires 12 to 18V DC power from a battery or power supply unit.
