WD SE Overview

  • 1Description

The Elements SE Portable USB 3.0 Hard Drive from WD offers maximum data transfer rates and universal connectivity with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 devices. The compact and lightweight enclosure features a 1TB capacity for storing videos, music, photos and documents while on the go. The hard drive is also bus-powered so you do not need an additional AC power adapter.

Maximum Transfer Rates
When connected to a USB 3.0 port, the Elements SE Portable delivers maximum performance for data transfers. Transfer a full-length HD movie in a fraction of the time it takes with USB 2.0. USB 3.0 can transfer files at a rate as high as 5Gb/s while the USB 2.0 tops out at 480Mb/s
Improve PC Performance
Computers slow down when their internal hard drives become full. Instead of delete files in order to free up space, transfer them over to the Elements SE Portable at high speeds for improved performance
Pre-Formatted for Windows
The Elements SE Portable comes pre-formatted in NTFS format and is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It can also be reformatted to work with a Mac

    WD SE Reviews

1TB Elements SE Portable USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 301.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A handy device with small limitations. A great external hard drive. Runs quiet and is fast. It gets its power through the USB cable and does not require a separate power cord. Operates on Win 8 with no problem. Easy to find in your computer list via the WD Icon. The supplied USB cable is only 18 inches tip to tip with the hard drive connector end being unique. Since it has no on/off button, it is recommended to unplug the USB when not in use. This will elongate its life (the disk will continually spin). With this short cable, it's great for use with a laptop but inconvenient with a desktop tower having USB ports in the back or sitting on the floor. It does the job and the price is right.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so good for apple... Sales should inform that this kind of hardware requires patchingsoftwares, that are usually not free, to work with MAC. That is expected when you are selling to a MAC consumer, considering that he probably likes the intuitive aspect of apple products in general. It works fine, but a I had to download a software called Paragon after an initial feeling of frustration followed by a boring google research on the web (there are other options to convert NTFS units to MAC, but the free ones did not work for me). The point here is that this issue should be informed at the sales point, and it wasn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a very good product! I usually use hard drive to save vidio and pictures. This hard drive has a large enought capacity to keep everything I want. Because this is USB 3.0, it's faster than traditional USB 2.0, so this make tansfor big file no matter from hard drive to computer or computer to hard drive very fast. 1G big file only take approximately 20 seconds. For the portable properties, its light weight let me carry it without waste energy! Last but not least, western digital hard drive is in very good quality. I have a western digital before, it can also work after 5 years. I highly recommand this wester digital hard drive!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Run out of space...Run out of gas My first serious computer was a Dell PC with an 80gig hard drive. I discovered that a loaded hard drive equals a computer that grinds to a halt. I purchaced this 1TB drive to accompany my Sony Vaio, with an almost 500GB drive, to keep from overworking my computer. With lots of raw image files from a Nikon D-300, it's easy to see the Vaio getting overloaded sometime in the future. The Western Digital Elements SE portable drive will be the primary storage destination for me, keeping the Vaio unencumbered to maintain it's operating speed and perhaps minimize the possibility of other recovery problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly and pocketably small coming from an external drive with about six times the weight and size with half the capacity of the WD Elements, I was surprised and pleased to receive this tiny device. I have no complaints about it for the almost two weeks that I have been using it. The portability is great as well as the plug and play simplicity. I am satisfied with the speed of operation particularly as I know that my computer itself needs a speed upgrade. I have definitely been speeding up on my photo editing work now that I have this storage device. And the price is great too for 1TB. Quite pleased am I.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little drive, no software I got the Elements SE to replace a lower-storage capacity Seagate drive for keeping a weekly backup of my desktop PC. I love the size, low noise, and speed of the thing. I was somewhat spoiled by Seagate software that came with my previous drive, so I thought it would be no big deal to use Win7's backup or some other free backup software to run weekly. Windows backup and other software ran into errors writing to the drive (some suggest this is because of the USB 3.0), and the free software I can find that does seem to work isn't user-friendly. I'll figure that part out, and the drive is nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small on the outside big on the inside I'm using my drive as a archiving device. I had around 800gb of projects on my MacBook Pro and it was slowing it down. Now those projects are moved off my laptop and on to the Element drive. And my new workflow is when ever I need to work on a project I copy it off the element and on to the laptop. Then copy it back over to the Element once I'm done with the project. Overall this little drive if perfect for storing things that you hardly ever open. I'm going to be getting a few more later down the road for my music and stock videos. Plus the size of the drive is smaller than other drives.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working good For our purposes the unit works as it should. The price was excellent. The only issue we had was with packaging. It arrived in an envelope, therefore the box was crushed when it arrived, since this only affected the box, we deemed it irrelevant to return it and get a refund. Skullcandy sends their stuff in better envelopes (the ones with bubble wrap lining). Hope our next purchase comes better wrapped.
