The DGK Color Tools DKC-Pro Multifunction Color Chart is a color tool for the performance of several tasks related to photography: white balance, exposure setting and color correction. The package consists of a DKC-Pro card 5.0 x 7.0" (12.7 x 17.8 cm), a Quick-start guide 3-fold card, and a Resource CD with additional guides and color profile software.

The color chart features multiple neutral gray targets for performing white balance in all lighting conditions. A large calibrated 18% gray patch and 6-step gray scale enable the performance of exposure setting. The gray scale can adjust and control for proper exposure using the histogram function of DSLR and other HD video cameras. On the opposing side of the chart, there are 18 scientifically prepared color targets for performing color correction in cameras, displays, and printers, along with software for creating custom color profiles using Adobe Camera Raw (CS2 or higher).

The color patches are 100% coated with DGK's n-Chrome process, allowing for a much higher level of color saturation, luminance, and accuracy, while getting rid of metamerism. These patches represent the primary colors, process colors, and natural colors like human skin, sky, flowers, fruit, and foliage. The card creates an objective reference to be used in the studio or in your post-production work to compare and analyze any color differences or errors. This way, you can be assured of top-notch digital colors every time, from capture to display and print!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works fine, but... I use this to white-balance cameras for both photography and video. In that role, it works great. I have used standard gray cards for years and thought this might be an upgrade with the color swatches. Description and website calls these primary and secondary colors. I'm still a little fuzzy on what that means. For instance, both a white-balanced photo and a flatbed scan of the color side shows Red to be Red-ish. Color test in Photoshop says RGB = 209/53/48. Is that primary Red? Same with the other colors. Guess I should have sprung for the X-rite... You can't go wrong for this price, but instructions are sketchy and, in my opinion, color reference is iffy at best.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incomplete product The included help files refer to a zip file supposedly on disk -this file is required and not on my disk,- had to be downloaded. Once you have the zip file you have a far superior help file set and the .jsint file required to run check and calibrations in photoshop. Also in those help files are the actual pathing instructions missing from the disk. In half a dozen attempts I have been unable to get the calibration procedure to work. It crashes out after around 10 mins having substituted the image in photoshop for an image contaning text. As it flattens down any layers you make in the process you must open image again for another attempt. The checker script does run for me but doesn't seem to actually give much of great use. Emails to Digital imageflow are so far unanswered. Box is about as cheap and nasty as a dvd box can get and the clips rub on card surface. Card itself is small and flimsy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Versatile As described. Great size. Good swatches. Only thing is I wish that it came with a compact carrying case, like a simple plastic sleeve, not the DVD case that it comes with. The swatches are vibrant and solid, but seem delicate and can be easily scuffed, torn, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential A color chart is an essential tool for film makers like me to color grade shots and for multi-camera shots to make the images of all cameras consistent in post. Unfortunately, it is made of cardboard and needs careful handling. I originally wanted to mount it on the back of my clapper board, but it would not survive the daily handling and occasional drops from light rain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice color reference chart This is a useful chart in a useful size. I used it to calibrate my camera/monitor/printer to a single color chart standard - photographed the chart (after using the gray scale to adjust the color balance of my camera), the used it to verify the color balance of my monitor matched the photograph of the chart, then used it to determine the print settings of my printer so that the print of the photo matched the chart.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good compact card, directions lacking I use this to balance color when shooting artwork: shooting raw and processing in Lightroom. Using it to white balance off of and to compare the grey scale is helpful in achieving more accurate results. I was intrigued that I might be able to create a color profile but there was very unclear information about how to do that. Also, some of the documentation that came on the CD referred to a product with a different model number. They also speak about exposing +2 in raw but do not go into much detail on how to follow through with that approach in post processing. This may be due to my general lack of understanding of current methods of color control. The packaging is annoying. While it does come in a DVD case with a holder for the card, that is a bulky package for my camera bag. Once you unwrap the plastic from the card, it is bare and succeptible to scuffs and dirt. It would be good to provide a plastic sleeve as well that the card can be stored in. The DVD package is a pain because it does not snap closed easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color it in You cannot beat this set for the price. Full range color on one side and a grey card on the other side, prefect for setting custom white balance. Comes in a handy DVD case, protecting the card while it hangs with the rest of the gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A necessary item! As a multitasking professional, I use it for color reference for illustration, photography, video, color copier print calibration, pre-press and anywhere that I need consistent color and grayscale reference. I purchased four sets. Two sets to have a balanced reference cards on either side or top and bottom of whatever the subject matter. The other 2 were for my boss to have a pair for his photography set-up as well!
