Celestron CPC Deluxe HD overview

  • 1Description

The Celestron CPC Deluxe 1100 HD 11" f/10 Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is the flagship model in the CPC Deluxe line, and improves the power and capabilities over the 8" and 9.25" models with the largest aperture and longest focal length. This complete observational platform is ideal for deep-space visual exploration and astrophotography. Optically, it features an aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system consisting of a corrector plate, a spherical primary mirror, and a secondary mirror along with a set of field-flattening lenses integrated into the baffle tube. Complementing the EdgeHD system is the proprietary StarBright XLT optical coating system that improves light transmission and reflectivity across the entire visual spectrum. The combination of EdgeHD and StarBright XLT produces bright and clear high-resolution images with true color rendition across the entire field of view without distortion, aberrations, or off-axis comas.

Optimized for imaging, the internal focusing system features mirror support clutches to ensure proper alignment and mirror locks to avoid accidental defocusing during long-exposure astrophotography, and the optical tube is outfitted with a 2" visual back to use larger eyepieces and accessories. 2" eyepieces typically have wider fields of view and longer eye reliefs than similar 1.25" versions for more comfortable viewing, and the larger back ensures full coverage of today's imaging sensors to avoid vignetting. A reducer adapter is also included to enable the use of the more common 1.25" eyepieces, accessories, and imaging gear. For visual observations, a 2" star diagonal is included along with a 23mm Plössl eyepiece that yields 122x magnification. The motorized dual-fork mount has dual-axis servo motors that provide precision movements and an integrated 48-channel GPS receiver that sends information to the hand controller and requires limited input from the user. The heavy-duty stainless steel tripod helps limit vibrations to ensure clear resolution during observation or imaging sessions.

The brain of the entire system is the NexStar computer controller. Equipped with a database of over 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog, it can also be programmed with up to 99 custom user-defined objects, with filters added for custom object lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface provides the power to observe the heavens with nine slew speeds and three tracking rates, plus anti-backlash compensation and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) for smoother movements in the motors and improved tracking over time. Features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar controller easy to use and invaluable to new users and experienced stargazers.

Optical Tube
  • 11" (280mm) aperture
  • f/10 focal ratio
  • 2800mm effective focal length
  • Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain optical design
  • EdgeHD field-flattener aplanatic design eliminates spherical aberration, field curvature, and off-axis star coma to improve resolution, sharpness, and clarity across the entire field of view—especially at the edges
  • Fine-annealed Pyrex glass reduces internal light loss to improve color, clarity, and sharpness
  • StarBright XLT optical coatings
  • Flexible tension clutches hold the primary mirror in place to reduce image shift without putting any force or pressure on the mirror assembly, keeping subjects centered
  • Internal mirror locks prevent accidental adjustment to focus—important during long-exposure astrophotography
  • Internal focusing mechanism
  • Resolution: 0.5 arcsec (Rayleigh); 0.41 arcsec (Dawes)
  • Secondary mirror obstruction: 3.75" (95mm); 34% by diameter; 12% by area
StarBright XLT System
  • Maximizes light transmission through optical path
  • Improves color rendition, contrast, sharpness, resolution, and brightness
  • Broadband system provides flat wavelength transmission across the entire visual spectrum
  • Multi-layer mirror coatings with layers of aluminum, SiO2 (quartz), and TiO2 (titanium dioxide)
  • Multi-layer anti-reflective corrector plate coatings with layers of MgF2 (magnesium fluoride) and HfO2 (hafnium dioxide); hafnium has a wider band-pass than the commonly used titanium
  • High-transmission water white glass corrector plate limits light loss due to internal absorption
NexStar Hand Controller
  • 40,000+ object database
  • 99 user-defined programmable celestial or terrestrial objects
  • Enhanced information on over 200 objects
  • Nine slew speeds: 4°/sec, 2°/sec, 0.5°/sec, 64x, 16x, 8x, 4x, 1x, 0.5x
  • Three tracking rates: Sidereal, Solar, Lunar
  • Multiple alignment procedures: Sky Align, Auto Two-Star, Two-Star, Solar System, EQ North, and EQ South

  • Constellation Tour: Takes the user on a tour of the best objects within a specific constellation
  • Identify Mode: Use to identify an unknown object in the field of view or to find other celestial objects that are close to where the user is viewing
  • Anti-Backlash Compensation: Trains out the intrinsic play between gears for more precise slewing and tracking
  • Periodic Error Correction (PEC): System learns its internal tracking errors and improves over time for more precise tracking, requiring fewer corrections
  • Built-in instructions guide users through the alignment procedures

    Celestron CPC Deluxe HD reviews

CPC Deluxe 1100 HD 11" f/10 Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Celestron CPC 1100 Deluxe At 66 pounds the scope is right at my lifting limit. The packaging system is excellent and there was no sign of damage. Set up was easy and excellent. The light gathering ability of the 11 scope is excellent. My only negative to the entire package is the lack of storage areas for 2 eyepieces. I feel this is an oversight by the Celestron team.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Telescope This is the largest scope I own and is primarily used for astrophotography. The wedge for the scope is necessary for proper polar alignment $.Motors are extremely smooth. I have an 80mm orion scope on top for auto guiding paired with the Orion starshoot autoguider. as well as the original finderscope. At the same time I also have a dslr attached with the t-adapter. if you wish to photograph nebulas as a whole object you will also need the focal reducer $ -$.Even with all of that plus the cables, (its a lot of weight plus I don't use counter balance weights) the telescope handles it with little to no problem. I haven't trained the PEC. not much need so far.Con!! Telescope is considerably heavy!! have a dolly for the scope ; there is not transporting it in one piece. I take off all the attachments except the finderscope and also separate it from the tripod but I do leave the wedge on. Weight is an important factor; to heavy and you will be disappointed in the investment because the novelty will wear off and it will just sit. **make sure you have the means of convenient transportation**This image is not using a focal reducer**

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Celestron CPC 1100 HD Have used the telescope for almost 18 months and it has worked perfectly. The scope is right at my limit for lifting onto the tripod. A rolling dolly has been built to allow easy movement from the garage to the driveway. Have used the telescope with a color G3 camera to take a few pictures. The unit is normally used to teach Canton Texas citizens about astronomy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again Cpc 1100 HD is great. Very easy to operate. The only problem is the weight but besides that it is a great buy.
