Canon 4401B002AA overview

  • 1Description

Canon's FS300 Flash Memory Camcorder (Red) is an affordable standard definition cam that records up to 20 hours of video to removable SD/SDHC memory cards (20 hours per 32GB card). The FS300 uses Canon technologies such as the DIGIC DV II Image Processor, a 1/6" CCD sensor, 41x Advanced Zoom, and Dynamic Image Stabilization to help you capture your memories in sharp detail. Other useful features like the 2.7" LCD display and the built-in video light further aid in getting just the right shot.

In addition, the FS300 also gives you the ability to capture short 4 second video clips that can be set to music, and are ideal for Internet sharing. You can also capture 786k still images with the FS300 either in still mode or while recording video with Canon's Dual Shot mode. Other user-friendly features like Quick Start, Pre-Record, and Portrait mode all come in handy when shooting, making it easy for you to focus on the moment.

SD/SDHC Flash Memory
With the compact FS300 you're able to record over 20 hours of sharp, clear video onto a removable SD card using flash memory. The SD memory card is easily inserted into your computer or TV's card reader and will allow you to view your recorded footage immediately.

In addition to the advantage of added recording time, you'll appreciate the quick response time of flash memory because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. Another plus is the FS300's low power consumption rate, allowing your battery to last longer. It's just what you need so you don't miss that pivotal play on the field or the moment when they say "I do." And if the FS300 happens to slip, or you accidentally knock it against something, you'll be happy to know that flash memory makes your camcorder more shock resistant than other recording storage systems. It also minimizes the chance of data loss due to damage to your recording media or the moving parts found in other camcorders

Canon Image Quality
Canon delivers high quality video in the standard definition video FS300. A Genuine Canon 41x Advanced Zoom delivers steady and stable images, while the 680,000 pixel CCD Image Sensor and Canon DIGIC DV II Image Processor capture video with vivid, intense, lifelike detail
2.7" Widescreen LCD Display
The 2.7" LCD on the FS300 lets you see more of what your camcorder is recording. The 123,000 dot screen delivers bright, clear detail and the widescreen format means there's no need to imagine what your final image will look like on your widescreen television because it's not squeezed into a small space while you're shooting. What you see will be what you get
Video Snapshot
Video Snapshot will let you shoot short movie clips with the FS300 in the same way you've shot snapshots with your still camera. You can create 4-second video clips which can be played back in the FS300 with background music. You'll also be able to capture clips in Playback as well, making it convenient to use this feature. It's a great way to document your life in a quick, easy, entertaining series of clips, perfect for Internet sharing
Dynamic Image Stabilization
With the Canon FS300, you can be sure that even on the move your video will be smooth and steady. Dynamic IS provides continuous adjustment throughout the entire zoom range to correct a broader range of motion. In comparison to conventional electronic image stabilization systems, extra compensation is applied at wide-angle focal lengths to eliminate unwanted vibration that is common when walking
Quick Start
With Quick Start, you'll never miss a quickly unfolding shot again. When the FS300 is in Camera Mode and the LCD panel is closed, it is placed in standby. When the action starts, open the LCD panel and you'll begin recording in less than one second. You'll also help extend your battery life as compared to leaving the camcorder in regular recording mode
Dual Shot
Dual Shot makes capturing video and photos fast and easy. Both types of images can be captured in the same mode - without requiring any switching. This ensures you will be ready to capture the action when it starts, helping you to avoid the chance of a missed shot
Quick Charge
When you've got a lot to shoot but not a lot of time to recharge your batteries, the Quick Charge feature comes to the rescue. In 20 minutes you can charge up to approximately 60 minutes of recording time! It's ultra-fast battery charging when you need it most
Pre-Record
The Pre-record feature places your FS300 in a stand-by "pre-roll" mode. With this feature the camcorder continuously records three seconds of video to memory before you even press the record button. When you start recording, the additional video is recorded too
Pixela ImageMixer 3SE Video Editing Software
The Pixela ImageMixer 3SE video editing software allows for playback of recorded video on your computer and editing in which you can trim, reorder, and combine scenes, as well as add music, titles, and transitions. With the Pixela ImageMixer 3SE Software, you can burn a standard definition DVD to relive the memories on your TV. And to perfectly complement the Video Snapshot feature found on Canon flash memory camcorders, a music CD containing royalty-free soundtracks is also provided

    Canon 4401B002AA reviews

FS300 Flash Memory Camcorder (Red) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty sweet little Cam I've used it a few times and the functions are nice the zoom power is amazing. The size I think is great, fits in my hand perfectly. The microphone is also really strong and pics up people talking even when there is loud background music. I have had this sweet gem for about two weeks and its been really great, there is a velcro strap for your hand which I have used to fasten to my belt loop since I don't have a carrying case yet. I wouldn't recommend this but it worked for me, I was dancing at the time. So what I'm saying is it's quality! I also have used the photo option and it takes pretty nice pictures also as long as your target is not moving very much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As Advertised This has been a very good camera so far. It is wicked easy to use right off. The camera is very light and compact. Personally I'd like a viewfinder on cameras but I guess over time I'll get used to this. The software was easy to install and has been fairly easy to use. I read earlier reviews that complained about filming in low light conditions, I've had no real problem as long as you have the settings correct. Overall I'd say this camera is well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good videos - light as a feather - Video is quite good given it is NOT HD. There is a lot of information and mis-information all over the web concerning whether this video format *.MOD is compatible with Mac OS. The short answer is yes, but.Yes, imovie version 8 and above will recognize the Mod file and allow me to work in iMovie. BUT, I also use iMovie 4 which does NOT recognize the Mod format. There appear to be lots of third-party software to convert *.Mod file to an mpeg-4 file which my version of iMovie 4 recognized.I am satisfied with the camcorder - paid $ shortly before Christmas, now it is available in local stores for this same price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT! Highly recommended! I have been waiting a long time to get this camcorder and write a review on it. Let me just say that I am extremely happy with it. It is very easy to use. I did extensive research and read countless reviews on Standard Definition Flash Memory camcorders of all brands. Nothing could compare to the reviews and reputation of Canon. I was considering getting the FS200 because it had GREAT reviews, but decided to wait until the 300 came out. I was told by Canon reps that the 300 has some technical and processing upgrades that the layperson would not understand. I will break my review down for an easier read. WHAT I AM REPLACING: I am replacing a 2 year old Panasonic mini DV 3CCD camera. Anyone that knows about camcorders knows 3CCD is the choice of professionals and offers the best picture quality. It is what they shoot commercials and movies with. And that camera did its job, but I was tired of all the rewinding, and fast forwarding. Having to search for a blank spot on the tape, dealing with tape cases, labels, etc. I hated having to hook up all kinds of power cords and transfer cords to my computer to bring the video over. I was tired of having to wait second by second for the video to transfer. If you had a 3 hour video, it took 3 hours to upload. VIDEO QUALITY: Well I was a bit concerned the quality of the FS300 would not match compared to my Panasonic 3CCD. I shot 10 minutes of video of the same subjects in different light settings with each camera at their highest quality settings. I uploaded them to my video editing software, burned onto disk and played on my 50 inch plasma TV. The video quality of the Canon is EQUAL yes EQUAL to the 3CCD camera! The FS300 looks fantastic! Not grainy or digital looking at all. The inside recording is even better than my Panasonic. There are a lot of ways to get around the reviews of dark grainy video inside in poor lit areas by adjusting the settings, but I left mine on auto and it looked pretty good. It is not going to be perfect in low lit areas. No Standard Definition camera is going to. SOUND QUALITY: The sound is great! Picks up a lot but not too much where you cannot hear what you intended on recording. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE FS300. Ok so here is what I love about this camcorder. First and foremost I LOVE being able to record video and pop the SD card into my computer and import the video in seconds. No hooking up wires or power cords. No matter how long my video is it only takes a seconds to upload it. Keeping track of SD cards is easier than mini DV tapes. There are some negative reviews about the .MOD files that the camcorder records as. I am running windows 7 and media player, and all the other players play it no problem first time! My editing software plays it no sweat. I am using Cyberlink Power Director 7 for that. The price was right in my ball park. I found it for $. The picture quality is FANTASTIC! The 2000x zoom in incredible. I like the small size, it is light weight, compact. I like the easy user friendly menus that canon offers on their electronics. The button layout is very nice. I like the energy saving features so your battery does not run down so fast. I like that it tells you how many minutes of recording time you have left until your battery runs out. Totally convenient. It has very few moving parts inside. I like the automatically open and close lens cover. The image stabilization is outstanding. If you zoom really far you will need a tripod for stability. That is across the board with any camera on the market. There are many more features that make this camera a great value..LEARNING CURVES: It did take about 30 minutes of playing around and reading the manual to fully understand the menus and all the functions. Not too bad at all.WHAT I RECOMMEND: I was told by Canon to get a Class 4 or higher SDHC memory card for this camera. It does not matter what capacity card you get make sure it is a class 4 or higher. That is the transfer speed of the memory card and is the minimum they recommend to keep up with the speed of the camcorder. I have (4) 8GB class 4 SDHC cards. I will have anywhere between 10-20 hours of recording time there depending on the settings.. Plenty for me. I would recommend a second battery as well. This just is a must for camcorders in general. OVERALL: Overall I would HIGHLY recommend this camcorder to anyone. The picture quality, size, features, sound, price, style, are outstanding. I am extremely satisfied with this camera. You will NOT be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this camera I bought this camera for as my Mom's birthday present after she loved mine. We are both novice videographer/photographers and this camera is great for both of us. It's perfect for family videos and photos. It's small so it's fits in our purses and ready in a flash. We love it. The quality is excellent. It fits great in the palm of our hands and is very secure because of the strap. Battery life is great. Symbol on the display showing battery life and available memory card space is very helpful. It's comfortable and easy to use. The zoom is impressive. Hope this helps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from only one problem - mov format I really like the portability and ease of use of this camcorder. The main problem is that I can't download the video to my Mac, which won't accept the mov format. I did not realize this when I bought it and am still looking into go-arounds to get me there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact but efficient I have just used this around the house so far and it works wonderfully. We will soon be going on a cruise and I can't wait to capture all of our excursions and everything on video! It is a bit complicated at first but once you get used to it you will love it!
