Canon 4345B023AA Overview

  • 1Description

Are you ready to rumble? Creatively, that is? Canon's PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black) is more than up to the challenge: it's got a 12.1MP sensor, a 12x zoom lens (28-336mm equivalent in 35mm, which goes from very wide-angle to super telephoto in a snap), and a vivid 3" display.

That's just the basics--there's also dazzling 720p HD video with stereo sound, fun special effects like Fisheye and Miniatures, and Advanced Smart AUTO that gives you the absolute best exposure for 28 different shooting situations like Portrait, Landscape, Kids & Pets, Low Light, Beach, Foliage, Snow, etc.

There's manual control over exposure and focus when you want it, image stabilization that controls camera shake when the shutter speed is low, color variations like Super Vivid for magnificently saturated colors or Color Swap (pick a color in your photo and replace it with a different color that you specify), sensitivity up to 1600 ISO, exposure compensation +/- 2 f-stops in 1/3 stop increments, and 6 different exposure control methods. Whew!

But there's a lot more. And it's all accomplished with 2 AA batteries, available just about everywhere in the world. Isn't that sweet?

Greater shooting capabilities in 720p HD video - the SX130 IS can shoot HD video with stereo sound while using the optical zoom, offering better versatility and image quality so you can fully capture those fun, memorable moments.
A high-powered 12x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer reduces camera shake so you achieve brilliant images whether you are up close or far away.
Great new scene modes like Miniature Effect for Movie offers a creative option to capture your videos and Fisheye Effect offers a cool artistic option to capture your images.
Smart Flash Exposure where the camera determines the correct flash based on the shooting situation.
Advanced Smart AUTO analyzes faces, brightness, colors, distance and movement, then selects an appropriate setting based on 28 predefined shooting situations.
Powerful DIGIC 4 Image Processor, with 12.1 Megapixels, makes this camera a perfect device for any shooter!
Large 3.0-inch wide LCD enables easy viewing.
This AA battery-powered camera enables you to easily power up.

Shooting Modes

Smart AUTO--the camera automatically selects the best shooting settings for optimal quality based on subjects and environmental factors to provide point-and-shoot simplicity.
P (Program)--access advanced exposure compensation features while shooting mostly automatically.
Tv (Shutter-priority)--you select the shutter speed to stop or blur action, and the camera finds the appropriate aperture. With slow exposure times, Canon's noise reduction system activates to ensure low image noise.
Av (Aperture-priority)--you define the aperture to either isolate your subject or have clarity throughout the entire picture, and the camera will choose the corresponding shutter speed.
M (Manual)--the ultimate in creative control, you set both aperture and shutter speed manually.
Easy--keep the image quality as high as possible for fail-proof images.
Portrait--the camera sets a large aperture, focusing the subject and artistically blurring the background to make your subject "pop."
Landscape--for front to back sharpness, the camera sets a small aperture.
Kids & Pets--reduced focusing time for even faster shutter response, so you won't miss those special shots.
Smart Shutter--the camera automatically takes the photo when people smile, wink, or get into frame.
Low Light--for high quality image capture in an amazing range of dimly-lit situations.
Super Vivid--Super Vivid intensifies existing hues, saturating the scene with bright colors.
Poster Effect--poster Effect combines several similar shades into one color, turning subtle gradations into eye-catching, scene-popping contrasts.
Color Accent--choose to retain a single color in your image while other colors turn monochrome.
Color Swap--select a color and replace it with a color you specify for special effects.
Fisheye Effect--add a classic photo distortion without a fisheye lens.
Miniature Effect--give images a miniature look with an effect that emphasizes perspective by blurring the top and bottom of the image.
Beach--get clear shots of people at a sunny beach without darkened faces.
Foliage--capture brilliant shots of autumn foliage, greenery and blossoms.
Snow--shoot clear snow scenes without darkened subjects or an unnatural bluish tint.
Fireworks--grab brilliant images of skyrocketing fireworks

    Canon 4345B023AA Reviews

PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 126.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera, Fun to use Fun to use, Great Zoom for a small camera. The video is very good, Optical zooming is smooth. Feels nice in my hands, thumb grip on back. They moved the delete button, pushed it by accident a few times, never lost a picture because of it. Operation is fast and snappy, focuses fast, does good to ok in low light, better than past P&S cameras. My main complaint is the CA (purple fringing) is a little more than I like, normal for the 12X zoom lens, no worse than my Canon S3, which has 12X lens. I still like the colors and saturation of my A720 better, even though it can out resolve the A720. Nothing is perfect, but this comes pretty close. Fun little camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good for it's size great camera when I want to shoot something on the spot without the hassle of my big SLR. Indoor pictures you will mostly need the flash. You can use Auto, Manual and costume settings A,S,P so you have full control over the camera. the con is that you need to wait about 5 seconds between pictures when you use your flash, flash is only good for about 3 meters. When camera is used properly, you can get very good results also in macro mode.video: good quality also in low light 720p. Little problem with auto-focus because of it's contrast detect which does re focusing when you move camera little bit, takes about 3-5 seconds to focus each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! We owned the Powershot 1000IS before this. This was a modest jump in megapixel range but the real selling point was the AWESOME zoom (12x) compared to the 1000IS having a small 4x zoom. The HD video with stereo sound. Looks and sounds great! Images are crisp on that huge screen in the back and the HD video blows our minds. This is mostly a camera for my wife, I'm a pro photographer, and she loves its ease of use, easy to understand menu functions. I love that if I don't feel like bringing my pro gear I have something that will get crisp, great images but fits in a pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and great quality shots Grabbed this camera two days before vaca and took tons of pics without even a glance at the instructions. Great results, indoors and out! Used mostly auto settings and tried a few others like kids and pets etc. image stabilization works great. Amazed at the clarity of shots at full digital zoom - even with my shaky hand. Only noticed a slight delay on some indoor shots. Video quality seems good though playback is shaky when zooming. Overall I'm very happy with this camera. Batteries are going strong after a week of use - 400+ shots (about 10% using flash) and a dozen videos. Using this with a class 10 SDHC card.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good upgrade I upgraded from my Canon PowerShot A700 finally, looking for better digital zoom (12x on SX130 vs 6x on A700) but maintaining the portability, when I keep the camera in my jacket and cargo shorts pockets. HD video looks pretty good so far, but I've noticed some grainy-ness...guess I'll have to play with settings. No user manual PDF (included or online) is available as of the purchase date (2010-Sept); but I'm using the SX120 Users Guide as a reference point, since they're so similar. I like the scroll wheel to cycle through pics and menu options. I have noticed that the camera is a bit more of a power hog as non-rechargeable batteries have drained more quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Camera I got this camera as an upgrade to the sx110 that I used to have. Both are great cameras, but my mom wanted the sx110 so she bought me this one. The zoom is great, I was able to get a fairly decent picture of Mt. Shasta from the rim of Crater Lake on a college trip to Oregon, that's almost 113 miles away. While the camera lacks a sports mode, simply using the shutter speed priority mode at the maximum speed with the flash up will get those action shots you want. The battery life was a bit short, so I got a set of rechargeable batteries with it and carry a spare set of AA's and the camera lasts throughout the day. Overall this is a fantastic camera for a casual photographer or even a photo enthusiast, and its the perfect size for those on the move.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Canon Digital Camera SX130 Just got back from vacation 10/28/10 thru 11/1/10, and took the camera, it took great clear, crisp pics..I was very impressed with the pic quality, when I was downloading to computer. The only complaint I have is where the preview button is located at the top and I kept hitting it after I took a picture. As for the battery life, I only had to change out the batteries once I think the batteries that came with it were weak to begin with, we had rechargeable batteries that we took just in case....otherwise I really like my new camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like this camera! I just got back from a vacation in Europe and was very pleased with my experience with this Canon camera. I have always been a Canon fan and this camera does not disappoint. Images are very good, it worked well in a variety of settings, and delivered some great photos. I was a little worried becasue reviews mentioned problems with battery time, but I used the camera every day and took a lot of pictures, many in cold weather, and using the rechargeable batteries I went six days before I needed to change batteries. My only complaint is that it doesn't work great in low light settings, I tried taking some events at a night sporting event and the lens is not fast enough to really work in this setting. But overall I think it is a good camera and a good value.
