The narrow profile of Wescott's 16 x 30" Apollo Strip Softbox makes it an ideal rim, hair light or accent light. The recessed front edge of the box provides a degree of directionality that can be intensified with the included 40-degree fabric grid, which narrows the beam spread while eliminating spill light.

The output remains soft and flattering with the type of control you'd normally get from a reflector. Alternatively, if you need a harder light simply remove the front diffuser. Since the Apollo Strip is built on an umbrella frame, it provides for quick setup and equally quick break-down. The Apollo Strip mounts vertically or horizontally to suit your subject.

Narrow Profile
The Apollo Strip was designed with a narrow 16 x 30" profile. This modifier is an ideal hair light or rim light, allowing you to focus your light source on a defined area. For even further light control, pair this modifier with the included fabric grid.
Dual Stand Mounting Options
The Apollo Strip features two built-in zippered entry points. These allow for precise mounting of your Apollo Strip, either horizontally or vertically. After mounting, this opening can be zipped tight around your stand to eliminate any spill light.
Designed for On-The-Go Photographers
With flexible framework and instant umbrella-style setup, this softbox is designed for busy photographers. Each Apollo softbox packs up quickly and can be thrown into any gear bag for effortless travel and storage.
For Speedlites and Strobes
Thanks to the Apollo's versatile umbrella shaft, this modifier can be instantly paired with both speedlites and strobes. With Apollo Strip, you won't be confined to using a single lighting style or forced into buying several modifiers.
No Speedrings and Rods
Unlike most softboxes, this modifier is constructed with an umbrella-style frame. Not only does this allow for the instant assembly, but it also allows for quick strobe mounting without bulky speedrings or adapters.
Equipped with the Latest Technology
Since their introduction in 1985, these umbrella-style softboxes have been enhanced based upon consumer requests. The latest Apollo design features a recessed edge, flexible fiberglass frame, and removable outer diffusion panel.
Premium Diffusion Fabric
Westcott diffusion panels are constructed with a premium, all-natural unbleached nylon fabric. Unlike processed diffusion fabrics, these diffusers will soften your light source without altering its color temperature.
Direct and Soften Light
By directing your light source toward the Apollo's included front diffuser, you'll create highlights with a subtle hot spot. By directing your unit towards the back of Apollo, you'll create an even spread of light with softer shadows.
Maximize Output
Apollo softboxes are manufactured with a highly-reflective silver interior for optimized light output.
Uncompromising Light Control
The included fabric grids are made up of cells that control off-axis light in 4 directions while still maintaining the soft quality you want from a large light source. By focusing light through a grid, you eliminate both light spill and lens flare simultaneously for precise illumination.
The Hair Light Perfected with Grids
By allowing you to precisely focus your light source on a defined area, grids are the essential accessory for your hair light or rim light. When modified with a grid and softbox, your light can illuminate your subject from behind without light spilling onto your backdrop to gain dimension and depth in your portraiture.
The Science Behind the 40-Degree Grid
A 40-degree grid is the most popular choice for photographers and filmmakers, allowing for precise light control with limited loss of light. Light loss at the center axis is minimal, even at a distance 3 to 4 times the diagonal of the softbox. This typically results in losing less than 1/4-stop.
Instant Placement
Westcott's 40-degree grids easily attaches to the front of the Apollo Strip with strong touch-fastener material thanks to the softbox's recessed edge. giving you the ability to use your diffusion panel and 40-degree grid simultaneously.
Ideal for Travel
The soft, compact grid collapses down instantly for streamlined travel and storage in its included bag.

Westcott Apollo Strip Reviews

Nice portable light

I like the Westcott Apollo series.  I have the Orb and now this strip box.  Theyre very easy to set up and provide very nice light, just like any other good soft box does.   The pros for the Apollo series is theyre portable, versatile and require less power than some other traditional soft boxes.  They have a highly reflective interior that bounces the light around before it goes thru the diffusing panel  Peace!

Flimsy, not too sturdy in build quality. However it is relatively inexpensive. Speedlights and strobes fit inside, and are difficult to reach to make adjustments. I have had a strobe overheat inside. Will keep as backup, and use a regular strip box.

Great soft box, and has worked nicely with my canon 600 strobes.. nice that I can access my flash through the zippered sides and it is very light, travels easy.

Great softbox for flashes

Works well. It's nice having a softbox for my flashes. The construction is kind of flimsy but it holds its shape well enough. Only 4 stars simply because it's no as robust as a softbox with a speed ring. But this set up is much lighter. My one complaint is the zippers make it hard to tilt the flash up and down, simply because the stand sits inside the soft box. Produces beautiful directional light tho.

I wish I had two!

Easy to set up. Easy to direct light where I want it. Small and compact, making it easy to transport if necessary.

Great for hair or edge lighting. Also use two for clam-shell lighting.

question

Would this work nicely on the AD600 and AD200?
Asked by: Thanh D.
This Apollo strip will pair nicely with the AD200. I would suggest using it with the bare bulb in a rear facing position to maximize the spread of light in the modifier. Like the fit in the medium Apollo, the size of the AD600 and therefore the fit inside the box may not make it ideal unless you use the accessory H600b remote head for the strobe.

question

Are there any CFL fixtures that will work with this? Looking for this to pull double duty for stills as well as video. I know the D5 will fit in the orb, looking to put a continuous light in here as well.
Asked by: cody h.
The D5 will fit in this modifier as well as the 28 medium Apollo, but I would only recommend setting it up in the shoot through position and use 27w bulbs as opposed to the 50w bulbs. The profile of the 50w bulbs allows little room for air circulation between the bulb and the fabric in these two modifiers. A single Ulite head can also fit but only accommodates one bulb and CFLs of high wattage are generally lower in light quality.
