Sirui T-2005X overview

  • 1Description

The Sirui T-2005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod is a very lightweight, compact tripod that extends to a maximum height of 56.9" and folds down to just 14.6" for easy transport. Weighing only 3.1 lb, the T-2005X supports loads up to 26.5 lb thanks to its thick upper leg sections and forged aluminum construction.

The T-2005X tripod is suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder. It's an excellent travel model due to its relatively light weight and the fact that its legs fold upward to achieve a folded length of only 14.6". That's a figure that won't necessarily grow if you attach a head – the legs extend past the height of many head models that you'll mount, so the entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and many backpacks.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and the T-2005X comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the short center column installed, you can set the legs at their wide angle (80°) and shoot from only 5.3" from the ground.

Forged aluminum results in stronger components than the traditional casting process that's often used for tripod chassis. Forging leads to more compacted metal and enhances the integrity of metal grains so they remain consistent and continuous. This leads to a longer product life and better performance
An anodizing surface treatment, produced by an electrolytic oxidation process to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, is applied to increase corrosion & wear resistance and surface hardness, and to enhance color durability
Silicone twist locks for leg stages
Anti-leg rotation system makes setup faster
Automatic leg-angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience – independently lock legs into place at two different angles
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 5.3"
Leg warmer on one leg facilitates handling in extreme weather conditions and helps protect it
Center column hook allows you to add a ballast for a sturdier setup in windy conditions
Well-designed padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying

    Sirui T-2005X reviews

    T-2005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value! Extremely well made when cost is factored in. Very light for an all aluminum design with these specifications. Leg locks need some care in use. Its possible to overtighten (not uncommon with other brands) these if one is overzealous, so break them in carefully and get a feel for the locking action. Do not overtighten! I've owned some fancy tripods including (expensive) Gitzo's and Manfrotto's. The Sirui design's are excellent and elegant, but they may not be the best choice for those who must, or choose to, abuse their equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality and exceptional value I've been using a Gitzo Series 3 carbon fiber tripod for several years, but needed something smaller for traveling and the Sirui T-2005x fit the bill perfectly. Steady as a rock, cleverly designed, and small enough to fit in a carry-on bag. I've been impressed by the great quality and attention to detail in the construction of the tripod and in all of the included accessories. In retrospect, I think the carbon-fiber version (T-2205x) may be an even better choice, but considering the price differential I really have no regrets. An excellent tripod by any standards, and truly amazing for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from T-2005x a Great Tripod If you are tired of carrying around a heavy tripod and want one that will handle most situations, this tripod is great. It feels so precision. The legs release quickly and lock securely. Here is a tip, Sirui recommends the 10x or 20x ballhead but I recommend the 30x ballhead. I tried the 20x head and when the tripod is folded the legs run into the 20x quick release top plate. Very annoying! I swapped for the 30x head and the legs fit under the quick release head. It all folds up great plus the larger ballhead feels so much more solid and secure. The T-2005x plus the 30x ballhead together still fit in the case that comes with the tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Tripod, small package I just bought 2 of these tripods for a very specific use and travel restrictions. I travel a lot with my equipment which consists of a motion control slider (1.5m) with a pan/tilt head and a Canon 5D mkIII. Since my slider is about 30 lbs I needed a set of tripods that could handle the weight. Each tripod has a 26.5 lb so combined they can handle my slider including the camera and pan/tilt head. In that respect I am very happy with the puchase. The tripods are very sturdy and well built. My second requirement was to have an ultra portable set of tripod that could fit in a Pelican 1510 carry on case because sometimes I need a very compact kit. Since this tripod packs up to 14 inches it can easily fit in the 1510 case. There you have it. I am very pleased with this tripod for my needs...ultra-portable and compact, well built, and able to handle relatively heavy payload.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super pleased - versatile and sturdy I could not be happier with this tripod. Upon opening, i was blown away at how compact the unit folds up. It arrives in a high quality carrying case. The unit unfolds smoothly and legs snap into one of 3 notched stance settings. the tubes are solid feeling, yet the overall weight is surprisingly moderate. I definitely could travel with this in my pack and not be complaining more than normal. I mounted a contax 645 with digital back, battery, and 210mm lens on it (using Sirui K30x ball head). At full height (eye level for me, i'm 5' 10), this this is SOLID, even without a weight bag. Just amazing stability. Could not be happier. I even pivoted my camera off 90 degrees into portrait and the balance is still very safe. I feel this is a great value, and actually I'm not implying there is a quality compromise. It's a solid tripod at a decent price. I am very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Stable Compact Travel Tripod I have a great Manfrotto tripod with carbon legs. However, when folded it does not fit into my backpack or carry on. This tripod is GREAT. Perfect size, stable and well built. Nicely finished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Travel I needed a tripod for travel on bus and train. I travel a lot this way and needed a tripod that could fold up nice and small while attached to my backpack for stow away when needed. But I didn't want any part protruding at the top or bottom of the pack. I also needed enough heft for long exposure photography w/o hanging anything off a hook to weigh it down but also light enough to walk around with. This tripod fit the bill perfectly. I just came back from a shoot in Stuttgart shooting day and night traveling all over the city via public transport. I used the included strap when needed, hand carried the thing without getting tired or attached it back on the backpack. Its build quality is quite good and ergonomic. The price was the best compared to others. The only negatives I have is the 4 knobs you have twist. It takes a little more time to setup than my other tripods of the past but the other aspects make up for it. Also, it does seem not as sturdy when fully extended with Nikon D3 plus my old school 600mm (14 lbs). Although it holds it safety it just wiggles a bit to easily with that kind of magnification. To handle that I just don't extend it all the way. The carry bag is nice and well made. The strap is comfortable for long carry use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great travel tripod Not sure why the specs say no spikes. They're actually built in, just twist the rubber feet and the spikes come out. Everything about this little tripod is great. I won't use it fully extended, but I didn't buy for that. Keeping it short and shooting close the ground works great. It even fits inside my new Pelican bag.
