Sirui K-10X overview

  • 1Description

The Sirui K-10x Ball Head is an extremely sturdy head with control knobs for pan, tilt, and tension, plus an Arca-style clamp for the included quick-release plate. The pan, tilt, and quick-release knobs are all separate, while the tension knob is integrated into the ball-locking (tilt) knob. The head tilts 90° for portrait orientation, and the quick-release plate features two pop-up pins that prevent camera twist when it's tilted 90°. There's also a video pin on the plate to keep camcorders from twisting.

The interior ball locking of the K-10x head has a sphere tolerance of 0.01mm, and it's equipped with an orientation-memory locking dial. This helps yield a high load capacity of 44 lb. The quick-release clamp features a secondary release button that prevents any inadvertent disengagement of the camera/plate from the clamp, thereby adding to the head's overall security & stability. The Arca-style platform conforms to standard sizes, so you can use compatible plates from other manufacturers.

The three control knobs allow a photographer to exercise extremely fine control over the orientation of the camera, whether it's a DSLR, 35mm, medium-format camera, or even a camcorder. Pan, for instance, can be adjusted while the tilt stays locked, enabling precise movement that's measurable – there are degree markers at the panning base for panoramic photography.

The K-10x is CNC-machined from an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and anodized with an oxidation treatment that ensures a durable, high-quality finish.

Arca-style quick-release clamp with secondary safety lock
Two bubble levels (horizontal and vertical) on the quick-release platform ensure that your framing hews to the horizon in either portrait or landscape orientation
The friction-control knob, integrated into the ball-locking knob, allows the operator to adjust the resistance of the ball's movement
Quick-release plate is aluminum alloy with a rubberized surface
Stainless steel camera screw

    Sirui K-10X reviews

K-10x Ball Head is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly Stable Ball Head This ball head is incredibly stable and supports a heavy full frame dslr, extra battery grip, and telephoto lens even at extreme odd angles . One of the interested functions of this ball head is that preset tensions can be applied on the main ball knob so that you can choose how loose the ball is. I personally haven't used that function but it may be interesting to some. Near the plate is a quick release red button which I found incredibly useful. It not only serves as a quick release for the plate but also serves as a saftey net in case the clamps for the plate are loose it won't allow the plate to fall out. With its great construction and ease of use I highly recommend this ball head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent ball head I was concerned about the size of this ball head given the load capacity but after receiving it and testing it out, all doubts are gone. This ball head is incredible for its size. YeAh it looks a bit funny on a larger tripod but it will hold any dslr setup you have sans the huge 5-600mm lenses. My only concern is getting my large hand in between the camera and tripod plate since the ball head is small but I don't think it'll be an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from K-10x Ball Head by Sirui In the short time I have had it; so far this ball head lives up to its weight load capacity ratings with my heaviest lenses, 70-200 2.8; 200 macro and 300 2.8. Once you adjust the friction control based on the lens and camera body in use (takes a little getting used to) it works smoothly and without any lens pull down or creep down effect at downward low angles with my d810 body. It is easy to mount and change with an efficient quick release plate. It looks heavier then it is; rugged and solid yet mounted on legs still only feels 3lbs altogether; still compact on legs and no really noticeable weight difference compared to the E model head originally included. The difference between the heads is pretty obvious at first sight comparison except you don't really notice the slight weight increase of the k10x. So far it performs as advertised; great for travel, hiking, all around an excellent performer. I just leave it on as my standard head and see no reason as the whole tripod - head weight of about three pounds to pay the extra for carbon fiber; it all still compactly flat folds. Highly recommend this head for those who want effective, sturdy but light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent functionality I use this ball head primarily to support a Nikon D7100 with an Nikon DX 18-300 lens. The previous head did not have adequate clamping strength -- this one does. All knobs are sufficiently large to avoid over-stressing one's fingers, and the controls are well thought out. All this, and yet the head is not excessively heavy. I saw other heads in a local camera store. Many cost more, but none shared all the benefits of the Sirui K-10x.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ball Head This is a great, light weight ball head. It is precision made. All operations are very smooth and precise. I pair it with Sirui T-1005x leg. The whole thing weights about 3 lb and is surprising sturdy for such a light weight.I did notice that if I set the locking screw (that locks the ball head to the leg) too tight, the panning motion becomes gritty. I loosen the screw a bit, the panning motion becomes smooth as butter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unbelievable grip for the size and cost The one thing I don't like is the panning stage. The panning stage does not rotate smoothly if the ball head is screwed onto the tripod too hard, so i had to loosen it and use lock screws to make it hold on. Even with that fix the panning gives a rough metal on metal feel if the panning screw is left partially engaged. So either you completely release panning screw of you clamp down.. there is no friction adjustment possible. Everything else exceeded all expectations. My heaviest combination is a D700 with an 80-200mm F2.8 and this ball has no issues with it at all. It is smooth and locks instantaneously. Coming from a manfrotto 488Rc2 which weighs in at 1.7lbs, this small 0.8lb ball is not just light but performs super well. Once i set the friction to my taste (fairly high) this thing clamps down my heaviest combo with ease at around a setting of 4. This suggests I could easily use it with heavier lenses as well. On the Manfrotto I had to put in some elbow grease to be sure everything was locked in place. I also like the quick release system plate which allows sliding adjustments. Its not a traditional quick release but its fast and works fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, easy, light weight. This is a considerable upgrade from my Bogen 3 way pan tilt, which is approx the same price. The ability to adjust the tension for the main control knob is a great plus. It is very small and light weight yet holds a substantial amount of weight. 5d MK III with grip and 70-200 with no problem, however I mainly use a 50mm so it's more than I need. It adjust very quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy ball head I am using this ball head with an 300mm f4 Nikkorlens on a Nikon D610. It is a strong head with greathold.Set it,lock it down and it stays put. It is a well made ball head. No cons so far.
