Vello HGS-2 overview

  • 1Description

The black Hand Grip Strap for Vertical Battery Grip from Vello assures you of a firm grasp of your camera while out shooting. The padded hand cushion is comfortable and provides support when the shot appears. Rather than have your camera dangling from a long strap, this hand grip keeps your DSLR firmly in your hand so when you're ready to shoot, all you need to do is raise the camera to eye level and shoot.

It attaches by back buckling one end to the camera's strap lug and the other to your vertical grip's lug. The strap is fully adjustable for maximum comfort to accommodate different size grips and hands. It's easy to install and remove and comes with a one-year warranty from Vello.

Compatible with grips (or cameras that come with built-in grip, e.g. Canon 1D series) that include a strap mount on the bottom
Provides a firm grip to help prevent accidental dropping of camera or camcorder
One end attaches to camera's strap lug and the other to the vertical grip's lug
Fully adjustable

Hand Grip Strap for Vertical Battery Grip (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional, but unwieldy. Compared to the similar Canon product, not as good, but functional with the B/G. The Canon strap has the attachment to use with the camera body tripod screw, so more multipurpose: will attach to either the camera bottom or battery grip. It is OK, but limited. And given its function, remember that, like all similar products, this grip strap cannot be used when the camera is held in portrait orientation (you have to disengage your hand, as the strap can only function in landscape orientation), which is, of course a primary use for the B/G. Overall, functional but a rather odd piece of gear. Personally, I would go with the Canon product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what I expected I shoot adult softball for a local sports facility and some times the ball seems to have me as it's target. I mostly shoot on a monopod with some pretty long lenses and needed a way to feel secure knowing I am able to move DUCK out of the way in a hurry and not drop my gear. This works great, and as an added allows me to relocate swiftly and accurately. At first it took me a little time to get used to it sticking to the back of my hand ie;sweating, but now I don't even notice. The bottom buckle did come undone one time, but by threading the tail back through the opposite side of the buckle this eliminated that problem. Great product! Worth the money at twice the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from God price good product I bought this because I don't like having a traditional strap on my camera. This strap works perfectly on my 5D and gives me more comfort and and security when it's in my hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as designed Easy to install and use with my Canon 5dMIII with a battery grip. No issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice but not very useful I think this works just like it's designed to. But if you have a battery grip and ever shoot in portrait, then you have to pull your hand out of the strap and move it to the grip and then when you turn back to landscape then you have to put it back into the strap. If you change back and forth a lot it becomes a real pain. So - it is perfect for what it's designed to do but not very practical for people switching back and forth a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice alternative to bulky straps I hate the long Canon shoulder straps that come with DSLRs - you stand out as a tourist and they get in the way. This hand strap is a great alternative. The strap attaches to the top right of your DSLR and the bottom right of the battery grip. It does NOT use a dorky tripod plate. This makes it nice, compact and light. The strap is long but maybe too long, though you could cut it. The material is comfy, with a secure buckle that is easy to adjust. It is a good replacement for the discontinued Canon EL1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon Strap E1 Replacement Canon stopped making the E1 strap which was a shame. Canon now makes an E2 strap. Problem is the Canon E2 strap does NOT work on SLR cameras that have a battery grip. It isn't long enough to mount the the bottom. I bought the Vello strap and it works just as good as the Canon E1 does on my other camera. Thanks Vello for still carrying this product. Oh and to the makers of Canon, make a strap that works with a vertical battery grip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, but not suited to heavy duty Been wanting a strap for my 1Dx for a while. Saw this one available from B&H while browsing their store. It was reasonably priced so I purchased it. I found that my 1Dx was probably too heavy to use it comfortably. Although I don't doubt the strap itself can support the weight of the camera, but the padded strap moves around a lot and the adjustment rings are awkard to tighten without leaving the strap flying everywhere. Does the job, but feel like its not the most polished product.
