Yes, the Nikon SB 700 is compatible with the Z fc and Nikon i-TTL systems. Keep in mind that most mirrorless cameras cannot use AF assist lights and it's very likely the Z fc will not be able to trigger the IR AF assist light from this flash either.

Will this flash work for night time nature ...
Will this flash work for night time nature photography? I'd like to use it for night birds (mostly stationary) with a Nikon 300mm f4 PF on a Nikon d500. I don't have much experience with flash photography. Thanks in advance.
Thanks to all for their answers. I'm going to try a tripod (borrowed, I don't own one yet), bumping up ISO and trying on a moonlit night at first. The d500 is a great start compared to my old d90. Having just added the 300mm PF f4 I'm anxious to try some early morning or late dusk photography. I think the first step will be to try to stretch my limits with what I have, talk to more folks that may be doing night wildlife photography and read more.
