The plan achromatic objectives are 4x, 10x, 40xR, and 100xR oil immersion DIN standard lenses. All are parfocalled, parcentered, and color-coded, and changing between magnifications is smooth and precise. The widefield 10x binocular eyepieces sit at a 30° angle, while the verticle monocular tube stands straight up. This tube can be removed for optional SLR and video adapters.
Illumination of the 163-P is provided by 12V, 20 watt halogen light. This light features a variable rheostat control, an illuminated on/off switch, and a 3-wire grounded electrical system. Focusing is coaxial and fine. Safety mechanism for focusing include a tension adjustment and a safety rack stop.
