Polaroid PL-160 overview

  • 1Description

This PL-160 Dual Flash from Polaroid has full Canon E-TTL / E-TTL II dedication, plus a continuous video light with three 1W LEDs, making this a terrific light if you're shooting still photos and video, since you don't need to switch back and forth between flash and continuous light. The flash has a guide number of 148' at ISO 100 and 85mm, vari-power settings of 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16, and built-in diffuser and reflective panels. The flash head tilts and swivels and features an auto zoom function that sets the flash zoom for the focal length of the lens from 24-85 mm. Recycling time is between 0.5 and 8 seconds, depending on the power setting. An auto sleep mode means less charging time and more shooting time and the unit has both 1st and 2nd curtain sync modes. The Dual Flash operates on 4 AA batteries.

    Polaroid PL-160 reviews

PL-160 Dual Flash for Canon Cameras is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific, dual-purpose light for HD SLRs I had no idea Polaroid even made flashes! As a dedicated flash, this unit works perfectly with my Canon 7D. I love the swivel head for bounce flash plus the built-in mini-eye light and diffuser for the strobe. The real joy is the built-in 5 LED light. It works as a focus assist light but even better, as a convenient mini light for shooting HD video. Daylight balanced, it opens shadows for close-ups and at least gives you some illumination when none is otherwise available. It won't light a room, but it'll let you get something when you would otherwise be totally left in the dark.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dual lighting very handy With the still/ movie DSLR capabilities,I'm surprised how few dual lighting units are out there. Canon makes some single LED lights, but this Polaroid unit has 3. The light is soft & even, daylight balanced and proved very handy during a documentary video project. Great for fast-moving situations where you can't set up lights. Since this is primarily a strobe, in low-light situations it allows almost instant switching between stills & video. The flash's built-in bounce card opens up shadows on people's faces. Problems - it does go through 4AA batteries pretty quickly, so always carry spares. As a zoom flash, it's a little slow in matching the lens' focal length. If you've ever been shooting video and suddenly need a still, or vice versa, this is a good unit to own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I can't get this thing - for the life of me - to play nice with my 7D. It eats through batteries, it's super noisy, and it take a super long time to charge up for the next flash.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for me. Sent this back. Don't know if mine was defective, but it was REALLY noisy and super slow. Total piece of garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great right out of the box I got this flash for Christmas to go with my Cannon T2i and I took it right out of the box and started using it to take pictures of my kids at Christmas. Im not a professional, just a camera happy mom, so this flash was super easy to use and made for GREAT pictures. I also took a lot of video and the added LED light was great for that. So, you get two uses for the price of one.
