Lowepro 180 AW overview

  • 1Description

The slate gray Pro Messenger Bag 180 AW from Lowepro is a shooters bag. It's slightly larger than the Pro Messenger 160 AW. This is a slightly different style of bag than a traditional shoulder bag since it features Lowepro's exclusive FlexFlap that opens and closes without buckles or snaps. The touch fastened closure opens and closes with ease - the way you want a bag to open when you need your gear at the drop of a hat. When the shot comes along, you'll be ready with gear in hand. The interior is divided in half with main compartment and a zippered storage pocket. Hence, the bag is made to hold a pro DSLR with grip and attached 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens, plus two extra lenses and a flash in main compartment or pro DSLR with grip (body only) in front pocket, plus three lenses and a flash in the zippered compartment.

It's made from a tough exterior canvas-like material that is made to take a beating and meets Lowepro's usual high standards. The shoulder strap is wide, adjustable and padded since Lowerpro knows you'll be outside much of the day and need to be comfortable. However, if the weather turns against you, they've included a neat All-Weather cover that can be rapidly deployed for complete protection from the elements.

The interior is filled with adjustable dividers that permit you to configure the bag to suit your equipment needs. There's also a zippered interior pocket that can hold additional gear. A SlipLock Attachment Loop is included on each side for those small quick grab items that you don't want to waste time searching for in your bag such as a pouch, keys, flashlight or cleaning cloth. As a final touch, there's a Dual Purpose Pocket in the rear that can be opened and used as a trolley sleeve.

Backed by Lowepro's lifetime warranty, this bag will get you up, out and shooting - in all kinds of weather and with the gear you need in a bag that doesn't weigh you down and is easy to use.

    Lowepro 180 AW reviews

Pro Messenger Bag 180 AW (Slate Gray) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great bag for street shooting I purchased this bag recently and used it on a trip to Philadelphia to do some street shooting. I have a 7D with a 70-200 f4 and a 24-105 f4. The camera (with 70-200 attached), the 2nd lens, and accessories fit in the bag with no problem. I did have the lens hoods reversed, and the fit was a little tight. I could have also carried a flash, but chose not to. I used the bag to carry the gear on the plane, too. It fits under a seat easily. Once I got out and started shooting, I was very pleased. The bag does not scream camera bag, and it is not as long as many bags, so it is much easier to get through crowds. It was fairly easy to change lenses, and I like the way the flap worked when it was folded back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly roomy and practical This bag surprised me. It has nice perks like a padded shoulder strap and that great side pocket that turns into a suitcase pullout handle sleeve to securely place it on luggage (or rolling camera bags). I was surprised by how many items I could get in there in a pinch, but also how it wasn't too big for just a body and two lenses. As a shooting bag it has one problem in that a body with vertical hand grip and lens attached, placed nose down for easy access will dig into your hips pretty harshly. If I didn't have such a tall camera (i.e. no vertical grip attached) it would be perfect...as it is that's my only complaint so far. The build quality seems top notch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Bag This bag is very well made and has some good features. I will fit a canon 70-200 f2.8 attached to a body but it is a little over the flush point but flap closes fine. It is a Messenger bag but it is a little more squared than I expected it to be but over all I like the bag and that it a little more stealth than the average camera bag. The shoulder strap is very comfortable which is a plus if you fill bag to capacity. I fill with a 70-200mm 2.8,24-70mm 2.8, 1.8 50mm in main compartment and some acc. in front zip. the flap has magnet quite close or full close Velcro very secure closure. B&H had the best deal by far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shoulder bag I've ever had I use this bag on location. If I travel the bag is in my big rollerduffle and on location I only use the new pro messenger 180 AW. Ther is enough space for a lot of gear. Mostly I have a Canon 1d mk IV with 70-200 f2.8 attached, two smaller zooms, a 580 ex II flash, cables and other stuff. But there is more space yet for clothes etc. Especially the new flip cover is very handy for that as the extra handgrip is. Could be three to five inch wider and it is not a bag for daylong hikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best! I bought this messenger bag when I was traveling in New York in January. I had done some research and more or less settled with the bag in advance. Upon my visit to the B&H store I looked at the competition this bag has. Compared to other similar products they are all left in the shadows by Lowepro's Pro Messenger Bag. It's a very comfortable messenger bag. The 180 AW model is perfectly sized to fit my Canon EOS 7D w/battery grip and 4 lenses. It all fits nicely no matter which lens I have mounted. The lenses I've used with this bag is Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L & Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. I could also fit lots of accessories in the front pocket, even another pro DSLR body could fit. I've worn the Pro Messenger Bag fully packed from 9AM to 9PM 4 days in a row, and with changing shoulder from day to day I did not get tired of carrying it given its weight. The shoulder pad is great. I have nothing to complain about with this bag. It's honestly the best I've ever used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag I had it for about four weeks, and enjoying it very much, I'm caring one camera body with a lens 24-70mm 2.8 Canon, 70-200mm 2.8 IS, 580 Ex II flash, battery pack, plus a bottle of water on the side packet. The shoulder pad is really good for that type of weight, it balances well, and after the whole day walking I'm not hurting like I did from Crumpler's camera shoulder bag. The bag is well made, and it's worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of space in this bag!! I can't say enough about this bag! I shoot some portrait photography and having my lenses and camera right there at my side when I need it is a must. I love the silent feature on the flap, avoiding that annoying velcro noise. The bag is very comfortable to wear with a thick padded shoulder strap. I would recommend this bag to anyone that carries a full size DSLR with a 70-200 lens attached, and other lenses to carry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed... I got the 180 primarily as a run and gun bag. I needed a soft, inconspicuous shoulder bag that fit my D700 w/70-200 2.8 attached. I love my Domke bags, but none of them fit this combo. Most of the time it is deployed with this body/lens in the middle slot, with a 24/2.8 and 50/1.4 on either side, and a SB-800 in the speedlight pocket. CF cards, TTL cord, small foldable softbox, polarizer, and tripod foot for the big lens fit nicely in the zippered pockets. And I love the stretch water bottle pockets on both ends. One of them holds water, the other holds reading glasses and/or cell phone. It's just the right size to grab for a soccer match, baseball game, birthday party, or just hitting the street. If I'm on a paid gig I obviously need more gear (particularly lighting) but this is my everyday bag. Very comfy (soft), neck strap holds the weight well, easy to work out of. Love the silent velcro feature. And as with all LP gear, I'm confident my gear is well protected.
