Olympus LH-40B reviews

LH-40B Lens Hood for Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely better than third party ones I previously bought a third party hood (EZPhoto screw in) because I couldn't find this one. The third party hood was okay, but could not be reversed for storage, which was important to me. This hood can be reversed, and looks much nicer. You could also store the lens with the lens cap on even with this hood on, the third party one, you cannot. You have to take off the decorative ring on the lens of the 45mm to attach it though. If it is important for you to reverse the hood for storage then this is the one to get, I like it and to me it is worth it, would be happier if it were a little cheaper but worth it nonetheless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, Too complex, Too expensive First, this is a very good lens hood. It's long enough and wide enough to actually be useful, which many hoods are not. It's made of heavy gauge metal and will probably last a long time. It fastens securely and is not likely to fall off. On the other hand: 1. It should have been included with the lens. 2. It's expensive; about 10% of the cost of the lens. 3. It requires the removal of a trim ring from the lens, to uncover an external bayonet. The trim ring will be easy to lose. 4. Only a problem for some people: It about doubles the size of the lens. It has to be that big to work properly, but some will find it cumbersome. So, this really does have the potential to improve your pictures, but you'll have to decide whether it's worth the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good fitting hood. Used on 45mm f1.8 Oly lens to reduce stray light and flare. Nicely reverse-fits onto lens to save space (but you have to remove and store away the decorative trim ring to do so). Good fit compared to the cheaper made-in-china knock-offs. Really should have been a part of the lens kit like most Pany lenses, to have to pay separately for it is pretty poor from Olympus. Rating loses a star for this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight and costly It fits the lens nicely and works. It is very lightweight, but I guess that is the reason to have MFT in the first place. It is a bit irksome that one has to pay a high price for a cheap hood that typically are included with Panasonic lenses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Why not? Simple and easy on/off. Color matched to lens. Should have come with the lens, but I guess Olympus needs the extra bucks. I thought of the Vello, but decided to fork over the extra for the cache.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks Can Be Expensive. After much debate, I finally decided to get this. At first, I was just going to get a third party one, but I can't stand third-party items that have random text decal-ed all over the place. Considering it's made entirely of plastic, however, I'd say that it's a bit too expensive for what it does. More so, I strongly believe that it should've came coupled WITH the Olympus 45mm 1.8 lens, instead of having the consumer to buy it separately. It also nearly doubles the length of the lens itself, which may cause complications for those who have smaller camera bags. With that being said, however, the lens hood CAN be reverse-mounted in a storage position like most dSLR lenses. All-in-all, this lens hood does exactly what it's advertised to do: it protects the lens' front element, and it reduces the chances of flare. If you don't mind the slightly higher price tag, definitely pick one up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as presented Once I understood how to attach the hood, I'm pleased. (internet is valuable resource for such things). I love my OM-D & this lens is one of my very favorites! BUT, Olympus should include the hood with their prime lenses! Shame on Oly! Also, would be nice if clear instructions came with the hood! Still, glad for the availability at B&H!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wish it was metal Bought this so I can deal with the intense sun in the Foothills. I've not been getting the contrast I want from my E-P2 and 45, especially in side lit situations. I can't fathom why Olympus doesn't include this with the lens from the get go. Hope that the plastic construction doesn't fail me. I wish it was metal
