    Photo Clam PCBH-PG2EPQR Reviews

Pro Gold II Easy PQR Ballhead is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Took a chance Sometimes I try different brands/photo products and am either disappointed or pleasantly surprised. This is one of those pleasant surprises! In fact had a Manfrotto ball head I was using and decided to switch to Arca Swiss style plates for better stability with longer lenses. Was not overly happy with the manfrotto, but absolutely happy with this photoclam ball head. Lever release is solid and positive action, the ball and tension smooth as velvet. Find this to be a heavy duty head that am now trusting with safety and stability of my Nikon equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great ballhead This is a great ballhead and I love it. There is a design flaw however where the small silver pin that allows the quick release lever to open fully. It is delicate and it breaks. I know 3 people with this ballhead and 2 of the 3 have broken, so be careful with how you use it. The good news is the balhead has an 8 year warranty. The bad news is photo clam doesn't respond to requests for a warranty repair. If t wasn't for the great customer service people at B&H who intervened and helped get a replacement ballhead I would be stuck with a broken ball head

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very smooth operation, tight lock, and good friction control Excellent ball head. Smooth operation, and when locked, holds tight! I removed the panoramic head, and replaced it with a RRS clamp (using the panoramic head on another piece of equipment). The ball head is mounted on a Sirui N-2204X tripod. Total weight is 4lbs. 3oz. Extended height (without center column raised) is 57. This brings the camera viewfinder height to 60 (Nikon D7000). I'm 5'9, so there is very little need to bend over when looking through the viewfinder. Like most photographers, I own several ball heads and tripods, including a heavier duty RRS tripod/ball head combo. This Photoclam/Sirui combo is now my go to, daily use set-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good ballhead This ballhead replaces my Manfrotto 498RC2 head. It is half the weight of the 498RC2 and supports several times the weight. It is smooth and the panorama swivel being above the ball part is realy good for panos. I really like the quick release. The adjustable drag works very well also

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Panaoramas The panoramic plate above the ball lets you swivel for multiple panorama shots without fussing with the legs. This is the 2nd one I bought as the first was stolen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not my favorite ball head. The Photo Clam Pro Gold II is not a bad piece of gear. It's really lightweight yet holds steady my Canon 100-400L and camera body. When tightening you will get a slight shift in camera position, even with a light load. The major flaw is the adjustment mechanism on the quick release lever. It is a nice feature to have which allows you to use different sized Arca style plates but adjusting it is very difficult, not a well thought out part of the design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A wise decision I chose this model to use for general tripod use, having timed exposures, as well as panoramic landscapes in mind. To me, it was a fairly expensive purchase. But the overall design, build quality, fit & finish seem to be excellent, so I'm satisfied my cash was well-spent. It took some time to adjust the lever-action Arca jaw to fit my camera's Arca base. And the directions could have been written a little more explicitly. But once I got it figured out and finished, the system locks up tight and secure. I'm glad I went for the lever-action jaw. In addition to being heavy (it weighs a full pound) it's also tall, thanks to the extra panoramic head on this particular model. I stand a little over 5'-10 tall. Mounted on the tripod I chose to use as a travel tripod, with its legs fully extended, I can't read the tiny circular spirit level that Photo Clam included on the top surface of the mounting plate. I can get around that by packing an extra gadget in my kit bag, but the weight makes me think I might want to get a second, lighter head to pack along when I'm not specifically planning on doing large panoramic shots. And large, panoramic shots was the chief deciding factor. In addition to the graduated 360-degree swivel base that can be used for horizontal pano's, the mounting plate is attached to a second graduated panoramic swivel. Put the ball head in its 90-degree position, and you can use this thing to take sets of vertical, as well as horizontal panoramas and stitch them all together later. As Martha Stewart would say, 'It's a good thing.'

Can the upper panning base be removed and the clamp attached directly onto the ballhead?
    Asked by: Renuka Devi B.
Renuka my answer was not intended to offend. I was not irritated or exasperated by your question.I do not work for B&H . I am a customer who bought the head and did a review. I simply answered the question and elaborated factually on what is the best features of the ball head

Can someone tell me how to tighten the quick release lever, please? My ballhead now has too much play and the instructions that came with it were for a different ballhead.

Where it this ball head made?
    Asked by: Harry
This ball head is made in Korea. Have several ball heads from different manufactures (including USA), and this is one of the best.
