Voigtlander DA216A reviews

21/25mm Viewfinder (Silver Metal) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price For the price this viewfinder cannot be beat by the Zeiss or Leica finders. It is about 50% smaller than either the Zeiss, Voigtlander (the plastic version), or the Leica, and the optics are good with a bright and large view with only some distortion. The rating is not in comparison to the Zeiss or Leica finders because it is unfair to compare a $ item with a $750 one; with all things being equal I would get the Zeiss but at 3x the price I don't use a 21mm lens often enough to bite. Only reason I give this 4 stars instead of five is the fact that there are frame lines for 21mm and 25mm (meaning clutter) and Voigtlander doesn't offer the compact metal viewfinder with one or the other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as good as Leica I use it for my Super Elmar 21/3.4 on M9. It is light, small, compact, clear, bright, reasonable accurate, and the cheapest of Leica, Zeiss, and Voigtlander (except for the plastic version). What do you say?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not entirely useful Voigtlander certainly has the ability to make some fine products, and it always remains a mystery to me why they would bother manufacturing something so sub-par. The framelines are slightly off in this finder (which is acceptable, partly because of the quirks inherent in using rangefinders). What makes this viewfinder almost unusable is the absurd amount of barrel distortion. Utilizing wide angle lenses requires pretty tight control over straight lines, horizontals and verticals, and this finder doesn't offer any help. I returned it, and now estimate my framing from the Leica M9's 28 mm brightlines in the finder- at least this way I can stick a spirit level in the hot shoe!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very helpful for people wearing glasses I purchased this viewfinder for use with a 25mm lens on a Zeiss Ikon. It's a beautiful device, but not that practical for nearsighted users wearing glasses. The peep hole is so small that with glasses, the 25mm frame lines are not in direct view, and one must peep around up down right left to see what is in frame. Since the Zeiss Ikon viewfinder at it's extreme edges is already about the same as a 25mm frame, it's about the same amount of work to peep around the rangefinder as it is the outboard viewfinder. So why bother with the added weight and complexity?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Well constructed, all metal. Optics clear and precise. Works great with my Leica M9 and it is super light and compact. Uber bargain, money well spent with the 21mm Voigtlander lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Footprint small - Value very large All metal, compact design, bright frame lens make this optical viewfinder a street photographers dream come true.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful to look through, beautiful to look at. I use it on a Leica MDa camera that does not have a built in viewfinder. The style in silver perfectly matches the camera. I use it in conjucntion with Voigtlander 21 and 25mm lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a good solid OVF I use it with my Pentax K01 on DA 15mm lens, and the result is great. The build quality is great, and it looks great. The only con is the price.
