What is the difference between a g38 base and a g48 base? If it is significant, can this be adapted? I've got an old 2k Mole Richardson type 410 solarspot and am trying to find a replacement lamp to put in it.

A G48 base is completely different it is round a G38 base is a two prong, they are not compatible at all.
