Tenba 637-352 overview

  • 1Description

The sage/khaki Discovery Top Load from Tenba is a minimalist bag designed to carry bare bones gear for a day trip. It's rated to hold a medium-sized DSLR (such as a Canon 5D/7D or Nikon D300/D700) and up to a 5" lens. However, it will also handle the various required accessories such as batteries, memory cards, a wallet, and keys.

It's made from a tough water-repellent nylon that is supported by self-healing zippers. A wide, adjustable, and removable shoulder strap supports the whole package. Its non-slip and contoured design makes the bag even easier to use. There's also a top grab handle for quick retrieval from a closet or the back seat of your car. Tenba has even made the bottom panel waterproof in case you happen to place the bag on wet ground. For even more comfort, the back panel has been provided with a generous supply of air mesh for breathability and comfort.

A real plus to this bag is the way it opens—away from your body. This gives you easier and faster access to your gear when that special shot appears. This style of opening also provides a measure of security, since no one standing around will be able to see inside the bag. The zippered side pockets are slanted downward for both facility of use and to help wick away moisture. All the bag's zippers have handy pull tabs for easier use with gloves.

The front of the bag is secured with a strong buckle and zipper. This allows you to leave the zippers open and just use the buckle to quickly grab your gear, or zip the bag and leave the buckle open. Inside, the dividers are all padded and configurable. Store your camera with the mounted lens pointing downwards.

The Discovery Top Load is backed by Tenba's respectable five-year warranty. It's a small lightweight bag designed for the shooter who doesn't want to be saddled with an excess of equipment. If less is truly more, then this is a bag to be seriously considered.

Discovery Top Load (Sage/Khaki) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific bag, but.... I wanted this bag to carry my camera with one lens attached for every day use, trips to the park, zoo, etc with family. I do love it, but..It is a tad bit boxy but nothing I can't live with. The website had said it would hold a Canon 5D with 24-70 attached which is exactly what I wanted. However, I find myself wishing it was just another 1/2 - 1 taller. I want to leave my lens hood on, plus I have the neck strap on which makes it a very tight fit to zip up. I do really like the bag though, just need to pack a bit differently and maybe go to a wrist strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding bag for all day carry of one camera & lens This is my fourth Tenba bag and they are all outstanding. I love the light colors for carrying cameras and lenses in hot, sunny environments - it helps keep them from overheating inside. When it's 85-100 F and the sun is beating down, I never use a black bag. I got this bag specifically for carrying one camera and one lens when I want to go fast and light for street photography or all day carry. My Leica MP 240 fits perfectly, even with my large Noctilux 50mm f/1.0 attached. You could actually carry a second lens if both lenses were small like the 50mm Summicron and 28mm Elmarit, for example. I highly recommend this little bag - it is truly excellent!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from fatal design flaws This bag has several design flaws. The lid opens away from your body, which is a good thing if done right, however the design is flawed as follows: 1) The zipper for the lid is located on the side, not on top where it should be. This causes the zipper to impinge on the shoulder strap and against the user's body. This makes opening the bag when in use a two handed chore. 2) The location of the zipper is offset from the corner of the lid where it hinges making the lid difficult to fully open as the fabric and zipper fight against the lid when opening. 3) The lid fits tightly and overlaps the side making closing the bag difficult, as well.Sadly, these are fatal flaws for my use. Otherwise, the bag is well constructed and lightweight. It's too bad they didn't get the funstional details right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag For Going Light I started moving to smaller & lighter gear loads when I turned 72 (older now!). Went from Canon 7D, 60D, and T3i and a small collection of lenses to micro four thirds and a smaller design bag to work out of. This Tenba Discovery Top Load has turned out to be the perfect bag for me to carry a Panasonic Lumix G85 with 12-60mm kit lens and two small primes (or the 20mm f1.7 pancake and 9-18mm ultra wide zoom). Just enough room for the camera, lenses, a few extra batteries, and a couple of extra SDHC cards. The load remains light enough, bag is comfortable worn cross body, and the Sage/Khaki color I chose is somewhat inconspicuous and doesn't scream, expensive gear inside. I'm very pleased with this bag

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect size, perfect fit If you know that you can be satisfied with a single zoom lens for the day's shoot, this camera bag is perfect. I load up my Canon T3i with the superb 18-55mm, f2.8 IS lens, charger, extra battery, and power cord, and lens hood in the main compartment, the inclement weather shield in one side compartment, and electronic flash in the other. Everything fits just right! I just wish the side compartments were just a bit more roomy which could give me other carrying options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag for Street or Nature Shooter Was looking for small bag for a three lens setup. The picture makes the bag look big, but it is not. Just the right size for 3 primes and DSLR. Very well made, solid and weather resistant. The padding on the back and strap made it very comfortable on long trips. The funning thing about this bag is it looks like a lunchbag. When I bring it to work or walk around downtown, people don't think you have camera equipment with you. Tenba makes a pro camera bag that doesn't scream camera guy or tourist. Everything is just right about this bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you need a small day bag for a DSLR.... Fits a Nikon D5XXX or D7XXX with a medium length zoom with limited room down the sides in the main compartment. Exterior pockets are adequate for batteries, SD card packs, or pocket trash. Nicely padded, the fabrication appears substantial, but, as others have noted, the zipper positioning isn't designed for quick access Note: Does not come with the weather cover as indicated in the packaging. Also, Tenba advises that this item is long discontinued.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great deal on this bag but... The materials and workmanship on this bag are excellent for the price. I bought this on a discounted price but I wouldn't pay full price for this item. The design concept for the top lid is unique but the execution is a bit flawed as the lid doesn't fully open because the ends of the zipper do not allow the lid to fully flex open. The rain cover was missing which would have been a big negative but I do not use it so I let that slide.
