Yamaha MCR-232 overview

  • 1Description

Yamaha's MCR-232 Mini-System sounds as good as it looks. With its sleek piano-black finish and small space friendly design, the MCR-232 is compact without losing features or giving off a "chintzy" vibe. It's a solid, powerful system that easily fits into your life.

Whether you're listening to the AM/FM radio, playing CDs, or connecting your iPad, iPhone, iPod, or other audio devices, the MCR-232 sounds great thanks to its vibration preventing 2-way bass reflex speakers, VCCS technology for accurate sound reproduction, and the option to connect a subwoofer. Other impressive sound specs include the 20W + 20W of output power, 60Hz-38kHz frequency response, 84dB sensitivity, and 6 Ohms of impedance.

The system comes with a remote for controlling basic functions of the unit from a distance. The MCR-232 also allows for connection of a USB drive for playback of WAV, MP3, and WMA audio files. Additionally, the system acts as an alarm clock with sleep timer, and features nice touches like removable speaker grilles, knobs and a front panel with an aluminum hairline finish, and screw type speaker terminals on the receiver.

Superior Sound that Lives Up to the Standards of the PianoCraft Series
Yamaha took care to design the receiver and speakers to perfectly complement each other. The receiver uses a high efficiency Yamaha digital amp that ensures accurate, low distortion sound, which is delivered by new-design speakers
Digital USB Connection for iPad and Other USB Devices
A USB terminal on the top of the unit makes it quick and easy to plug in an iPad or other USB device. The digital connection permits fast, loss-free signal transmission
Dock Digital Connection for iPod, iPhone
The iPhone/iPod dedicated dock provides a digital connection, which means that the digital signal from the iPhone/iPod is transmitted directly to the receiver. This minimizes noise interference and allows use of the MCR-232 DAC, rather than the /iPhone/iPod DAC, resulting in more precise sound reproduction
Front Panel and Knobs Have Aluminum Hairline Finish
The aluminum hairline finish of the front panel and knobs also contributes to the over high class appearance of the system
High Quality Finish and Removable Speaker Grilles
The speakers have a beautiful, high quality finish that looks elegant in any setting. The speaker grilles are also designed for good looks, but can be removed for a more basic appearance
New-Design, High Sound Quality 2-Way Bass Reflex Speakers
The 2-way bass reflex speakers use new-design 4-3/8" woofer units, have deep cabinets and are supported by three legs that prevent external vibrations from affecting the sound. The result is powerfully resonant bass and rich mid-range and treble, so you enjoy high sound quality with good imaging
VCCS Technology Ensures That the Speakers Accurately Reproduce the Sound from the Main Unit
Speaker cabinets vibrate, degrading sound quality. To overcome this, Yamaha drew upon its musical instrument manufacturing expertise to develop an internal structure called VCCS (Vibration Control Cabinet Structure), which uses strategically placed pieces of a composite material that provides excellent vibration isolation performance
Subwoofer Output and AUX-In Terminals
The subwoofer out terminals lets you connect a subwoofer to enjoy enhanced bass power and response. The AUX-in terminal allows connection of other audio components
New Style Remote Control
The remote control has a simplified design that makes it extremely easy to use
Additional Features
  • FM/AM tuner with preset tuning
  • CD text compatibility
Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad
"Made for iPod, iPhone and iPad" means that an electronic accessory has been designed to connect specifically to iPod, iPhone, iPad, and has been certified by the developer to meet Apple performance standards
iPod Digital Connection
iPod digital connection means that the digital signal from the iPod is transmitted directly to the system, minimizing noise interference and allowing use of the DAC not in the iPod, but in the system. This results in more precise sound reproduction
USB
This unit is equipped with a USB port that allows you to enjoy WAV (PCM format only), MP3 and WMA audio files from a USB memory device (USB flash drive)
CD Text Display
Get information about the CD currently playing right on the CD player's display. The 3-mode text display shows the CD's title, the artists name and the title of the track

    Yamaha MCR-232 reviews

    MCR-232 Mini-System is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love some aspects, has some limitations The size of the system is excellent and it looks great, beautiful craftsmanship, nice finish, looks way more expensive than it is. The speakers are acceptable but nothing special so I use it with my Boston Acoustics speakers. I recommend you buy it without the speakers. Nice small remote, easy to use. Ipod dock is great with my Ipod classic which has the older style connection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent sound! I'm a classical music lover and the sound produced by this system really lets each individual instrument shine. The sound is clear and distinctly layered. Good quality recordings sound amazing (I play CDs). I also tune in to the local jazz station and it sounds great: the percussion instruments seem present. In terms of design, it is clean and well-finished--a nice-looking, understated machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So happy with this system!! This is exactly, exactly what I was hoping for. I needed a small system that I could put on top of my refrigerator that had rich, high-quality sound and that didn't cost too much. I got everything with this Yamaha mimi-system. I am so impressed with the amazing bass this thing puts out. I don't have a very sophisticated ear, but I was really frustrated with the quality of the bass with my old Sony boombox, even with the Mega-bass button pushed. It was garbage. I also don't like the crazy over-the-top bass you hear blasted out of car stereos sometimes. This system has a bass that's as beautiful, deep and resonant as I used to have with my old JVC analog boombox -- even better than that, to tell you the truth. Sounds better than analog! The treble is nice and clear, too. It was pretty easy to set up and everything works the way it should, except for one weird issue. The grilles that were provided to go over the speakers didn't push onto the pegs the way they were supposed to. The holes were too small to allow the grilles to be pushed on. I had to take a small drill and drill the holes out a little bit to get the grilles to go on. Oh well. Nothing in life is perfect I guess. Just thought of one other plus: very nice, simple, attractive design. No crazy colors or flashing disco lights like some of the systems out there, lol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small, but packs a punch This little machine produces excellent sound reproduction suited to a reasonably large room without disturbing the neighbours.I had a plug issue here in Australia, but solved it for $.I would like to play the TV through the speakers, but there are no instructions for doing so.We dont need a woofer or a booming bass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MCR 232 Mini System by Yahaha I bought this system to replace a very old but much loved JVC full feature system. I am very happy with the sound and quality of the mini shelf system I also purchased the sub woofer to go with it because I enjoy more base but for the most part it is not necessary. its a great space saver really like it.
