Vanguard 264AB overview

  • 1Description

This Alta Pro 264AB 100 Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit from Vanguard supports up to 15.4 lb, measures 24.8" when folded, and includes an SBH-100 Ball Head with QS-39 Quick Release Plate. Each of its 4-section legs features an independent spread as well as flip locks for fast deployment. Together, the three legs can be can be positioned to a maximum height of 64.0" with the center column fully raised. Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure, comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet each with a twist-out, metal spike further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, including soft and uneven soil.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the QS-39 Quick Release Plate. The quick release plate can be attached or removed from the integrated clamp located at the top of the head's ball-and-socket joint by tightening or loosening the clamp's knurled, locking knob. The quick release plate features a rubberized, non-slip platform while two built-in bubble levels are located along the edges of the clamp.

By loosening the ball head's primary locking knob, the head's ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. Toward the side of the ball head opposite the primary locking knob is a secondary locking knob, which controls the ability to rotate the head 360°.

For added versatility, the center column is connected to the tripod by a fulcrum which enables 90° of upwards or downwards tilt that can be locked into place. Additionally, the center column assembly permits 360° of independent rotation. With the ability to push and pull the center column, those tilt and swivel movements allow the center column to be used as an extendable cross arm or a miniature camera boom. This allows an attached camera to be easily raised toward an elevated subject or over a scene. A camera that is placed toward the end of center column can be positioned perpendicular to the tripod, and extended past the tripod's legs, which is particularly useful for copy stand or macro photography. For subjects along the ground, the center column can also be used to obtain low angles while the tripod's user is positioned comfortably behind the camera.

A carry bag is included for storage or transport.

    Vanguard 264AB reviews

Alta Pro 264AB 100 Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit with SBH-100 Ball Head is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Alta Pro 264AB, I like it but... I like the tripod, but am disappointed that it is not compatible with the standard Arca-Swiss QR base, but instead uses a different QS plate. I didn't notice that different designation in the advertising. I have far too many QR plates that I do not wish to abandon, so will replace the factory base assembly. This will be a bit complicated as the screw is loc-tited in place. I also had to whittle the plastic on the arm so it could be pulled out far enough to work properly. This is so typical of China-made products, they're always a work in progress. I love the articulating arm and that makes up for the other negative. it seems to hold the weight of a 5dmk3 with a 4# lens with no signs of slipping. However, be aware that it can be tippy with the arm extended. Good product overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value I have looked at a lot of tripods. I needed one that would support my D7200 with the Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6 lens attached and I found the Vanguard and read several reviews prior to purchasing it. With the SBH-100 ball head it could more than handle the weight. I have not been disappointed. I use it almost every day shooting birds from my porch. It is very sturdy and handles my kit very well. I am glad a friend pointed it out to me as an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and priced right! I have only had a couple opportunities to use the tripod since I purchased it. Here are my impressions thus far: Well constructed, all the locks and knobs are solid and feel well made. Weight is relative, (I'm 6'1 and built like a ex-pro-wrestler), to me... this tripod is light weight. I considered the unit with the pistol grip and I'm not disappointed with my choice. This ball head is quick to reposition and holds my camera in place like it should. I had this at full extension on the edge of a roof, with the center column and locked it into the 90 position and fully extended. Sand bags hanging from a strap I put through the loop before extending the column. This shot is why I bought the tripod in the first place. I got the shot and in ONE day, it paid for itself. Now, I'll use it over the next several months and report back what I find. *5Dmkii, Tamron 24-70mm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything you need in a tripod. Sets up/takes down quickly and easily. Lightweight and easy to move from point to point with ease. Everything ajusts easily but locks down tightly so you don't have to worry about your camera shifting. Between the ball head and 360 degree panning there is no limit to framing up the perfect shot. The carrying case, two quick release plates and stone bag are excellent INCLUDED accessories. The stone bag works great not only for extra stability on a windy day but also as a great counterweight when extending the center column 90 degrees for close up shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Value I gave this 5 stars, because at this price point, I have not found a better tripod. In a short while, we put this tripod through the paces and it has performed quite well. I comes with a spare mount plate, so know that before you order a back up. Also, it comes with a handy multi-tool. Feature rich, not gadgety at all. Weight isn't an issue for me as I'm quite a large person. It is substantially lighter than my previous unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's what I expected I read the descriptions and product reviews so there were no surprises. I wanted a STURDY tripod to replace a unit I'd owned for years that wasn't suitable for a heavier camera and lens, i.e., a Nikon D750 with the FX 24-70. Combined, the camera and lens weigh about 4 pounds and I had noticed one leg of my existing tripod was prone to collapsing. This tripod is noticeably heavier and has a very sturdy feel. The movements are smooth through the range of motion and that's a definite improvement over my previous tripod. In short, I like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic for night shooting I am very happy with the tripod so far. Sure, it's a bit heavy, but I am a big guy so it works fine for me. The carrying case is clutch. I take a lot of photos at night of the Empire State Building, and this tripod is a godsend. With the rotating ballhead, I can take vertical and horizontal shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, affordable tripod! Everything that I read online when looking for a tripod online led me to one conclusion, do not go cheap, because if you do you will end up spending more very soon. I am glad that I followed this advice and spent money on this tripod instead of one <$. This tripod is extremely sturdy and extremely capable of holding all of my gear. Pros:-lifetime warranty-ability to tighten joints (tool included)-sturdy-decent load capacity-hook to add weight for stability-folds rather compact, includes carrying case-ball head is extremely solid, no creep when locked down properly-quick release plate doesn't cover my battery door so I can leave it onCons:-not free-tilting center column can be tedious, luckily this isn't a feature I plan on using often-somewhat heavy, but this is to be expected for a tripod at this price made of aluminum
