The 650-1 Framer's Edge Elite Cutter from Logan Graphics is a heavy-duty cutter designed for serious use in professional, educational, and amateur settings. This 40" (1.5 m) cutter can handle 4 and 8 ply boards with ease and the dual purpose head supports straight and bevel cutting.

Mounted on a medium density fiberboard base, the cutter is equipped with 9" and 32" squaring arms, and a ball bearing guided cutting head with start and stop indicators and adjustable production stops. Its mat guide allows you to easily choose the border width. The aluminum channels, like the squaring arms, help maintain proper alignment for perfect cuts each time. 650-1 Framer's Edge Elite Cutter (40" Cut Length) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just What The Doctor Ordered I used a Dexter mat cutter for years and while you can get clean cuts, the learning curve is steep and there is a great amount of waste in less than perfect mat windows. The Logan 650-1 has cut down dramatically on the waste and is much quicker and easier to operate. While there was still a learning curve, especially on the start and stop tabs for different ply mat boards, it was much more gradual and more intuitive. This model also has a cutting head for straight cuts which is useful in sizing paper sheets for alternative processes. The time savings and dramatic waste reduction make this mat cutter indispensible.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Problems Right Out Of the Box I don't think Logan did a quality inspection on the cutter I received. The cutting head was loose and the cutter was way out of square. There was a burr on the bevel cutter blade guide that the blade hit when it passed over it. I also had to put a paper shim in the squaring arm to keep it from rocking back and forth after I squared it. The production stops were way out of calibration and the red and green start/stop indicators were not oriented the same as in the instructional video but agreed with the printed manual. Logan's response to that was Oh, you got one of those. After all the issues were resolved and with a little practice, the Framer's Edge did a decent job. My only concern was the particle board base is not rigid enough and bowed with a little pressure when the cutting head passed over the area between the rubber feet on the bottom of the base causing an uneven cut. When bevel cutting, the blade tends to crawl away from you when you start your cut and I also noted a little bit of a hook even though the blade depth was set correctly. Another complaint I had was when inserting the blades there is no channel the blade slides into and there is a lot of play making it difficult to get accurate cuts if you are not careful inserting the blades. If you have big hands replacing the blade is not easy; I had to use a pair of hook-tipped pliers to remove the blades. After I had the cutter set up, I used it for a little over a month until a screw drop out of the straight cutter head. The stud the screw went into did not appear to be threaded and the straight cutter was only held together with one screw. Logan sent me the parts to repair the cutting head but the other screw holding the head together was in so tight I snapped a hex key trying to remove it. Logan's customer service was excellent and they offered to replace the cutter but rather than go through more problems I decided to upgrade to a different model. B&H's customer service went above and beyond what they had to and let me exchange the 650-01 for the Platinum Edge 850 and offered to give me the quoted price as the price went up during the return process. I thought the Framer's Edge 650-01 fell short of being a professional cutter; it is a hybrid between the Simplex 750-01 and the Platinum Edge 850 except the cutting heads are not of the same quality as the 850 has. If you are not cutting a lot of mats I would recommend the Simplex 750-01 and if you are cutting mats for professional work, bite the bullet and buy a cutter that isn't mounted on particle board (made from sawdust and glue) that will last a lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Logan 650-1, great product. This is an fantastic product and easy to follow instructions. After one practice round I made some minor adjustments and I was then making great mat board cuts. I think the only modification Logan can make going forward is to the straight-edge ruler, it seems a little flimsy at the mounting point and may need monitoring to stay square, but that too is easy to adjust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent mat cutter An excellent semi-pro mat cutter. A bit over priced but they Logan have you over the barrel. I found B&H prices better then other suppliers and delivery was quick and smooth. My only compliant has been with UPS leaving such a large box and expensive item on my city door step. This has been an on going problem with UPS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Built I use this for trimming pictures to size and also cutting matt is a bonus. I can print up to 24 X 36 and maybe a little longer. I needed a cutter that can handle the bigger pictures. Before I was using a square, a board and a box cutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing At first I had my doubts about upgrading to this cutter. After using it the last few weeks I am amazed at how much faster I can size and cut a board. I would recommend this to anyone who is wondering which one to purchase!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 650-1 Framer's Edge Elite Cutter Went from the 450-1 to the 650-1 primarily because the 650 had a straightening edge for squaring the mat board. After setting up the 650 and after a test drive or two - I returned it for the following reasons: the Start/Stop arrows weren't properly aligned, which resulted in overcuts of about 1/8th inch. When the bevel cutter was depressed into the mat, the blade crept or crawled, making the overcut problem even worse. Blade placement in both the bevel and straight cutting device was a nightmare. There is no defined slot recepticle ensuring that the blade was seated properly. On one pass with the straight cutter, the blade broke free from the device, resulting in a cut index finger. It became necessary to replace the straight cutting blade with a pair of needle nose pliers to prevent further injury. Once the blades were replaced, re-setting the blade depth again became a trial and error exercise. The bevel cutter seems to me to be set too far (high) from the mat - resulting in a greater opportunity for an inaccurate cut. I ran two trial bevel cuts - neither one stayed on the line I'd drawn. I've returned the 650 and went with the 550, hopefully it will perform better than the 650.
