The Vello FreeWave Plus Wireless Shutter Release system works with a wide variety of camera models just by swapping out the camera release cable. This B&H Kit adds the necessary cable to make this system compatible with Nikon D70s and D80 cameras. With this cable - and with the two additional cables already included with the FreeWave Plus (Nikon version) - this bundle is compatible with any Nikon DSLR camera.

The FreeWave Plus is a complete lightweight remote control outfit that provides a way to trip your camera's shutter while avoiding any possible unwanted camera movement. The FreeWave Plus works in either wired or wireless mode. This is ideal for photographing wildlife, and for macro and close-up photos or long exposures, where the slightest camera movement can ruin a picture.

With the dual function release, press halfway to focus, then press all the way to trigger the shutter. A four-second delay function makes it easy to produce self-portraits. Working on the 2.4GHz frequency gives you reduced radio interference and an extended range (up to 320' (100 m))--you don't need to have line-of-sight alignment, either, as radio waves will pass through walls, windows and floors.

  • Vello FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon

Trigger your camera's shutter wirelessly with the FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release from Vello, a lightweight remote control system that will help you avoid unwanted camera movement. This 2.4 GHz model is compatible with Nikon cameras and will work both wired and wirelessly up to 320', depending on your own needs and setup. This makes it useful for photographing wildlife or for macro and long exposures where it is necessary to eliminate any chance of camera shake.

The FreeWave system also has access to 16 channels for triggering multiple receivers and has an internal antenna that will be protected from any accidental damage. Multiple features are available for shooting, such as a four-second delay as well as multi-exposure and long exposure modes. The device also has a dual function release, enabling focus on half press and triggering the shutter release on a full press. Additionally, it has LED indicators to confirm pre-focus and exposure while in wireless mode and the receiver and transmitter each run on two AAA batteries.

FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release 2.4GHz (For All Nikon DSLR) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I Need for Remote Firing I own a FreeWave 10-pin shutter release that I have used on my Nikon D300 for 4 or 5 years. Unfortunately Nikon decided to scrap the 10 pin connector on their D750 so I needed a new remote release. This new Vello FreeWave unit works great on both the flash shoe, or connected to the remote outlet on the left side of the D750. This shutter release is just as reliable as its predecessor. It fires every time you push the button; half a press to focus and a full press to fire. It also has a light on the remote that flashes to verify focus and verify exposure. I am never more than 25 or 30 feet from my camera so I cannot comment on greater distances but at my shooting range it fires every time. So, this unit is light, it's reliable, it's inexpensive and it runs on AAA batteries buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Wireless Shutter for D90 and D750 Bought this to be a wireless shutter for my D90 and D750 for headshots and self-portraits. I love that it can auto-focus with a half-press and I don't have to run back and forth from the camera to set a self-timer for self-portraits and test shots if I have no one around. Cable release works for the D90 attached if I'm behind the camera and want to interact with my clients more than stuck behind the camera, but it also works wirelessly with the remote release with the other component still attached. I have not tested it yet with my D750, but assuming it will work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Battery Life, Superb Integration I bought a Vello FreeWave Plus remote-trigger kit with the intention of positioning my Nikon camera on a tripod near a location frequented by wildlife (e.g. a den, nest, or creek), thus obtaining unusual photographs that would be difficult to obtain using conventional hand-held techniques with long telephoto lenses. Others have confirmed the approximately 300-ft range of this kit, but my concern was how long the AAA batteries last in standby mode, so I ran a test (indoors, as its winter up here in Canada) to determine the standby time. For my purposes, I need at least 2-3 hours, as wildlife photography requires a lot of patience. Well, I was certainly surprised. The wireless setup worked perfectly for 24 hours, and I took a photo roughly once per hour to check that everything was functioning (including the camera). Having established that the standby time did indeed meet my requirements, I continued the test for another 24 hours, and everything was still working. On the third day, I carried on for another 12 hours (still doing hourly test shots) and then ended the test after a cumulative total of 60 hours of continuous operation. I had started the test with a pair of fresh Duracell alkaline AAA batteries, and had measured each cell at 1.61 V (with no load). After 60 hours of continuous operation, the individual cells measured at 1.43 V, indicating that there was still considerable life remaining in the batteries (an exhausted Duracell alkaline typically reads 1.20 V or less). Note that this battery-life test applies to all versions of the Vello FreeWave Plus kit; the transmitter and receiver are exactly the same and the only difference is the coiled cable that connects the receiver to your cameras accessory port. Although I ordered the Nikon 10-pin version, B&H shipped the Nikon universal kit (B&H # VERWIINK, For All Nikon DSLR) which comes with *both* the 10-pin and DC2 cables. A handful of high-end Nikons (like my D300s) have the 10-pin accessory port whereas most of the Nikon range use the DC2 accessory port. Thus having both cables makes this kit compatible with all Nikon DSLRs ever built. In my particular case, this universal kit is especially useful as I also have the (now discontinued) Nikon GP-1 GPS adapter which uses the 10-pin port. However, the GP-1 has a built-in DC2 port (as does the newer Nikon GP-1A) which is intended to be used with Nikons own MC-DC2 wired remote shutter release. When shooting with the GPS attached, I simply use the DC2 coily-cord included with the Vello FreeWave Plus in order to get simultaneous geotagging and remote control. The combination of reliability, ease of use, excellent battery life and seamless integration into the Nikon system has earned the Vello FreeWave Plus my five-star rating.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buttons Rattle like a Western Diamonback I haven't used the product as intended, but the thing lacks in quality from the unboxing. The buttons rattle like a Diamondback in the Sonoran Desert. The plastics are cheap and it clearly shows in the construction.
