The Sony 50 GB BD-R Dual Layer Recordable Blu-ray Disc enables you to record up to 50 GB of gorgeous full HD 1080 video. That's more than the capacity of 10 standard DVDs, giving you lots of room for hard disk backups and large multimedia files. Enjoy 1-4x write speed, 4x memory speed, and fast data transfer rates of up to 72 Mbps.

Sony AccuCORE Technology, re-engineered for Blu-ray media, provides improved reliability and durability. The recording material is of archival quality, resistant to image corruption and deterioration after long periods of time in storage. The disc's hard coating protects against scratches and stains while also preventing dust accumulation. A high-precision structure combats the warping that can occur due to severe changes in temperature and humidity.

For stable writing, the Blu-ray features a precisely-designed disc layer that is flatter than normal, resulting in fewer errors during recording and playback.

50GB BD-R Dual Layer Recordable Blu-ray Disc is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for permanent storage, displays I use dual layer BDs for two things, for both of which I much prefer it to trendier CF/SD cards. 1) As a data backup, I prefer permanent optical storage to SD cards. I'm a video artist & doc shooter, so I end up with plenty of raw footage. These BDs are big enough to hold an entire shorter project or chunk down a larger one, without the expense of SD cards or the bulk of hard drives. 2) As a video artist, I use BDs for looping video installations in the gallery. While many well-funded galleries use Mac Pros looping Quicktime files for similar displays, I find a cheap Blu-Ray drive with a BD-R to be just as reliable and much, much less expensive. I exhibit in artist-run spaces and cooperative galleries, so I am almost always on the hook for everything in my setup, including the projector. With 50 gb, I can loop an entire feature-length installation at 1920p for a fraction of the cost of a similar computer setup. If the gallery loses or damages the disk (rare, but it happens), it's not as much of a loss as an expensive 64gb SD card with an appropriate transfer rate. Even if Blu-ray did not take off like I'd hoped (thanks in part to Apple's refusal to license it, as well as the corporate push to force everyone into the cloud), this is a great, reliable product that meets my needs perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product has never failed Used for 2 1/2 hr. video. Worked perfectly. Have tried other brands previously with too many failed recordings in Blu ray. Will continue to use both Sony BD-R and BD-RE. Worth paying extra!
