Note:
Di-II lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras using image sensors that are larger than that of an APS-C size imager, or with 35mm film SLR cameras.

Stepping motor adopted for the AF drive, a construction that accommodates contrast-detection AF and shooting video.
The autofocus mechanism uses a stepping motor that is an ideal match for the contrast-detection AF system used in Sony mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera series. The stepping motor's actuator allows finely tuned control of angular rotation, and since it drives the focusing mechanism directly without an intermediate reduction gear, it also provides superbly quiet performance.
The Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism employs a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance that eliminates the blur from handheld shots for cleaner, crisper shots. The VC has a moving magnet system with heavy magnets in the vibration-compensating lens--the new VC mechanism adopts a lightweight moving coil system that reduces the load on the drive system. This allows the drive to be operated with smaller coils and magnets, reducing the weight and size for the entire VC unit.

I've been using different versions of this lens since 2016 for lower end real estate photography. It's perfect for this work because it can be used for both interior and exterior work that is non-critical. It fits the bill perfectly

Great focal range, ok image quality

This lens is "ok." It's standout feature is cramming a large focal range into a very compact package, and it does this very well. It's also fairly well made, solid and heavy for its size. I was not blown away by the image quality. It is decent enough for things that will be viewed on small format social media, but will struggle to produce images that will impress in larger formats or that will withstand aggressive cropping. If avoiding lens changes is more of a priority than superlative image quality, this lens may fit the bill.

The Tamron 18-200mm lens is a great product. I use it on an M50. I carry an extender that allows me to focus on insects and small flowers only a few inches away. 200mm is a minimum for a telephoto lens but it performs well. It is a much better investment than the similar Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.

I want to be able to zoom in and out while filming- With this lens -it doesn't feel smooth enough. It doesn't seem to be built for that.

The range! The price! Can't be beat. Though this lens is a bit hefty in weight, that's to be expected with all that glass inside.

Nice Walk-around Lens

I am not an expert, but I have found this lens to be a solid walk-around lens on my a5100. It's inexpensive, allows me to capture both landscapes and decent wildlife pics. The focus can hunt a little now and then, and it's not going to be as sharp as more expensive lenses, but I can actually shove this lens and my camera into a large jacket pocket, which means it's there when I want to get the shot.

While it does mount, it is not designed for a full-frame sensor and will crop your sensor and reduce your effective megapixels. I'd recommend buying full-frame lenses for the A7R IV.

Yes of course - the size of the CMOS chip wilt make any difference. If it's designed for the E mount an d the Alpha 7S is an E mount (full frame) there will be no issues.
