Sock doesn't fit

The dish itself is fine but I have now had 2 socks sent to me for this item and the both don't fit! I ordered some cheap 22" socks off amazon and they went on the dish perfect. This is the 4th item I've ordered from here that is defective. Customer service is very nice and helpful but their products are hit and miss. :(

If you have an option to get Manny Ortiz beauty dish (if it's on sale) then definitely go for that. If not, this set up is still a good option.

Simple kit, mounts easily, and the quality of light is beautiful - really effective isolation of the subject. I am using this with an Aputure LS 120 and it is a good combination. The packaging is good. Everything arrived in good shape and while the construction is light, and to that point, there was a slight warp in the dish when it arrived, it still easily fit the grid and diffuser. A little bit of gentle persuasion got the dish back in shape with no noticeable affect on the quality of light. When I transport this light, I certainly wouldn't put anything heavy on top of it. Fit onto a light, and mounted on a stand, the whole assembly is stable and, as noted, produces a beautiful and flattering light for a subject. It could be a single light source but I intend to use it with a fill light.

This light modifier is quite a lot of fun. Sturdy, well built. High quality of light, the grid provides excellent light control.

Wow! This beauty dish is made super well, the sock is sewn beautifully, and the grid is a perfect fit to the dish. I'm absolutely impressed and happy that I bought this kit. $99 is a price that made me have my doubts, but I'm SO glad I bought it! You can't go wrong with this, it's a thing of beauty!

unfortunately I didn't have a chance to use until after the return period. the attachment won't fully tighten on the light stand and the rest of the unit is super wobbly. alas.

To attach this beauty dish to a Dynalite 4040 head, you may use the Impact Beauty Dish Adapter for Comet, Impact LiteTrek, Dynalite SH and AH Flash Heads B&H # IMBDACOM, which has a bayonet-style mount. An image is shown below.

I mount this beauty dish on my EX200 using the Impact Beauty Dish Adapter below ( B&H # IMBDAELI ). To my eye, it looks like the build/form factor of the two heads is the same... I'm guessing the D just designates the digital interface of the EDX200 v. the analog EX200... but you may want to double-check to be sure.

Do these really work well with speedlights? ...

Do these really work well with speedlights? Wouldn't the light just get reflected out the back, unlike with a bare bulb monolight that directs light to the main part of the dish?

Yes, the Impact 20" Beauty Dish Kit for Speedlights and VC/VS-VSD Monolights, B&H # IMBD20BDK, works well for speedlight flashes. Some light may be reflected out of the back of the beauty dish, but that does not affect the quality of light that is coming out of the front of the beauty dish. (For the record, if a bare bulb flash were used with the above beauty dish and the sides were not blocked, it too would also lose some light out the back of the unit). If you feel this will be an issue for your images, you are welcome to devise a setup or contraption that will block light from exiting the back of the beauty dish by blocking or filling the space between the sides of the flash and the rear opening of the beauty dish. The whole point of the deflector plate in the center of a beauty dish is to bounce forward-facing light back into the beauty dish to fill up the beauty dish. If your flash has a zoom head, you could also simply set the flash zoom head to the wide angle setting, and/or purchase a Stofen-type Omni-Bounce cover to place on the front of your flash, which would extend the front of your flash and make it work similarly to a bare-bulb flash, scattering light in 180 degrees from the front of the flash head.

I bought this kit and cannot get the diffuser sock on. It just slides off as I try to stretch it across. Is there a trick to it?

Putting the diffuser on the Impact 22" Beauty Dish Reflector Kit BH #IMBD22K should be pretty easy and simple to do. If not, you might have a defective unit.
