question
What is the significant difference between this lens and the 85mm f/1.8daf; 1931 lens
The AF-S 85mm 1.8G lens doesnt have an aperture ring (as it is a G lens). It is also an AF-S lens (meaning it has a built-in motor for focus) which typically makes the autofocus on the lens quicker. Also the AF-S G version of the lens has a special coating and extra elements, compared to the AF D counterpart, which increases the image quality of the lens. And it has rounded aperture blades, which lends toward more pleasing bokeh.

What does the .12 magnification factor calculate? ...
What does the .12 magnification factor calculate? How is it measured?
I am fairly sure that this represents the size of the image in the viewfinder or final image vs the actual image size. So if an image is 10" high, the largest it will be in the digital images is 1.2" You might want to verify this, but I think this is it. You might compare it to a macro lens where the magnification factor might be 1:1...so if you are photographing a ring, the size in the digital image would be the actual size of the ring.
