    Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 reviews

AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 1219.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow it is fantastic needing to upgrade my 80 to 200 Nikon lens for the latest 70 to 200 VR i finally took the plunge and I am not sorry. I took out both lens for a day of shoot at Fire Island and was amazed at the sharpness and VR capabilities of the new lens. The images zoomed out to 200 of the deer is the fields showed great contrast as well as being tack sharp thanks to the VR. The images ont eh old lens were acceptable but the ones from the new lens just pop off the screen and are some of the best prints I have seen from images shot with this type of lens. I would truly recommend this lens to anyone looking to upgrade or get into this type of zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Destined to become a classic My partner and I are wedding, portrait and commercial photographers. We already have the original 70-200 VR and it's a fine lens. I didn't even mind the vignetting on our D3s and D700. However, the new version is a very significant improvement - especially wide open. This lens is tack sharp at f/2.8 and the Gen II VR is incredible - handholding at 1/15 second at 200 mm is possible with excellent results. The downside is that it is expensive, but really, you get what you pay for. Pair this up with the 14-24 and 24-70 and you have some of the best glass on the planet and you are ready to shoot almost any job. Thoroughly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastically Versatile Lens I just received this lens last week. I belong to two very active MeetUp photography groups in the Chicago area. Each group often plans multiply photography events each week of the year. I received recommendations from members on the versatility and outstanding performance of this lens. After reading much about it, I added this lens to my collection. Below is one of the first photographs (a self portrait) I took with this lens while becoming familiar with my new Bowens Gemini 500Pro 2-Light Studio Kit I also purchased from B&H the same week. These are two images of the same photograph; the first shows the entire, downsized image while the other is a crop section of the same photograph showing the detail this lens delivers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Significantly better than VR I Version I bought the VR I version in 2007 and have used it extensively for portraits and Cosplay on a Nikon D4 since 2012. I was happy with the results. But when I upgraded to the VR II version a month ago, I find that it does significantly better under the same circumstances. The center is slightly sharper wide open, which means amazingly sharp. The edges are sharper. And I have a higher percentage of dead-on focused images. (I always focus on the nearest eye.) The negative is that it's slightly heavier. Also a tiny bit shorter, which is good. Note: a D4 and this lens is one heavy combination. But superior results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every photographer deserves this lens I had been waiting and saving for this lens for a long time..and when Nikon introduced their rebates, I jumped on and bought this lens... This lens is all that everyone says and more..I was thinking about getting the new excellent 70-200 F4...but in the end I decided on the 2.8vr2 and so happy I did..I use it on a d800e and the results are truly amazing..Most serious photographers already have this lens in their bag,,,and as a casual/hobbyist like me...I will be keeping this for a long time.. I also have the excellent 85 1.4G and 105 2.8vr macro..and this is the final piece in my photo puzzle..trust me ..anyone that shoots nikon as the pros will tell you ,,you have to have this lens..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally worth it!!! First a disclaimer... I've only had this lens for a very short time... so consider this a first impression review. 5 minutes after unboxing this lens and putting it on my D700 I was in love. This lens is amazing. Everything from action shots of my fast moving greyhound to sharp portraits of my wife, family, and friends. Wonderful bokeh and subject isolation... lightning fast, quiet, accurate auto-focus... perfect. Is it heavy??? ... YES Is it expensive??? ... Oh heck YES Is it worth it???... Totally!!! Thinking about getting this lens... Do it. Also... B&H Photo had my order to me in 2 days... a great seller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have lens If you are serious about photography and you have a Nikon SLR then this is a must have lens. Well built and very sharp. Great for both DX and FX formats. I find there are many situations where this lens works very well. The only drawbacks as an amateur photographer is the cost and if your used to the 18-200 vr this is heavier than the non-professional lenses. The pluses significantly outweigh these minor negatives. You will have this lens forever, its great for sports, low light and can accept teleconverters. If you do ever decide to sell the lens, it will hold it's value. I enjoy the lens and the quality of the pictures I am now creating with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once you get it, you'll use nothing else I knew I've always wanted this lens based on good reviews, but I decided to start my collection with primes first, then the 24-70mm 2.8, a 105mm macro, and then this one. I rented it for an important wedding and I MUST buy it immediately! The compression is like no other! I mean it, compare it to any lens with an f-stop of 1.8 and this one at 2.8/200mm is just as beautiful! Talk about creamy bokeh. The good outweighs the bad, however I will say that aside from it being tremendously heavy in addition to my D810 and flash, some images may appear blurry at 200mm camera not held steady (even with vibration reduction). Just the nature of the zoom. Master that and gain a little arm muscle, and you'll never want to take this off your camera!
