Polaroid PLFILFDND58 overview

  • 1Description

The Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1.3 to 8.6 stops. The ND 3x to ND 400x density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.

Polaroid PLFILFDND58 reviews

58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed results Indoors with a flash it seems to work fine -- although the maximum variation in density occurs over a small range of rotation. Outdoors in the sun it's unacceptable: Both facing towards and away from the sun, when you rotate it into the range where the density is highest, you get a huge dark blue cross across the scene! So it's only usable, in direct sunlight, at lower density settings. Outdoors in open shade it seems to be OK. One final FYI: Although the rear threads are 58mm, the front threads are 62mm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This lens filter works great, I use it to shoot river pictures with a slow shutter speed during the day. It is not the most expensive ND filter out there, but it seems to work great. The only downside is that my lens cap soesn't seem to fit securly on the filter. Doesn't really bother me because I don't keep the filter on my lens all the time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would not recommend I used this filter to make water silky, and capture cloud movement. The reason I gave 2 stars is because this filter is literally unusable in daylight, and it even had problems with susnset too. When I darken it down almost completely (I didn't even had to go all the way to the end)a large X appears in the middle from corner to corner in almost all colors of the rainbow, but mostly purple and blue. In shade it worked as it should, but again, if you are planning to shoot moving clouds when the sun is up, forget about it... I'm gonna buy something more expensive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soft A little too soft for me. Quality worsens as the stops are increased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid build, versatile filter This is a great filter to be able to dial down the exact amount of light you wish to block. If you're shooting outdoors and you can't easily control the light, ND filters are a must. This filter allows you to select different amounts of light without changing the filter.Cons:Outside diameter is larger than 58mm (to prevent vignetting I assume) so your lens cap doesn't fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bargain Can't beat it at this price point. It even appears to be multi-coated. I got this for a Sony camera I shoot infrared with and can not change aperature or shutter speed in that mode, so this changes everything for exposure. I use to have to switch out NDs to adjust exposer, a real pain. This is the perfect solution for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job! I use the filter for slow shutter speeds during the day. So far i have only used it at the beach. The filter works how it should, the only downside being it doesn't screw on to my Canon lens tightly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All my problems are sovled! I use this filter both for video and photography on my canon 60d. It has been quite the life saver on really bright sunny days allowing me to shoot video @ 24p shutter: 1/50th at f2.8 giving me my desired Depth of field while still remaining sharp edge to edge. As for photography it has really improved my landscape photography.the filter gives me the advatage of wide apatures and long exposures to give me the best smooth water effect. overall this filter has really improved my game.
