The ShutterBoss II Timer Remote Switch for Cameras with a Canon 3-Pin Connector from Vello is a remote shutter release that provides photographers with enhanced levels of exposure control. Featuring specialized functionality such as continuous shooting, self-timer, long time exposures, and interval shooting, the ShutterBoss II is a huge asset to keep in your camera bag. This particular ShutterBoss is compatible with cameras that have a 3-pin connection, including Canon EOS 5D, 6D, 7D, and 1D series DSLRS, and select mirrorless cameras.

With the ShutterBoss you can set timer delays, exposure times, and intervals up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds in one-second increments. You can also select from 1 to 399 continuous shots or set the device to take an unlimited number of photos. Since you can set exposures without touching the camera you will capture clear, blur-free images. This remote has a 4-line backlit LCD status display for easy viewing of timer and exposure settings. The backlight can be locked to remain on when shooting in low light conditions.

The ShutterBoss is great for time-lapse series of blooming flowers, sunsets, or the night sky. It can also function as a simple manual remote shutter release. Simply establish the camera's settings and push the remote's shutter button halfway to focus and fully to shoot. In bulb mode, slide the shutter release button forward to lock and the shutter will stay open until you release it.

The ShutterBoss II has added two features that will offer easier control over the remote's settings. First is a power off option which gives you the ability to power down the remote to conserve battery life. Second is a reset option that allows the ShutterBoss settings to be reset to default settings with just the hold of two buttons. A default reset is a time-saver when you want to avoid changing each setting individually.

Whether it's for simple shutter release, extended self-timer options, continuous shooting, long exposures, or time-lapse shooting, the ShutterBoss II Remote puts creative camera control in the palm of your hand.

I needed an extra intervalometer because another brand I used flaked out on my while out shooting. The first few days, while on a trip, it was working fine, then as soon as my scheduled photo workshop began boom the thing began to flake out. At first it wouldn't trigger the shutter at all, then it would continuously trigger the shutter as soon as I plugged it in and wouldn't stop until I pulled the remote out, and sometimes as soon as I click the Start button it would start counting down, but the shutter would never release. It totally ruined any chance of shooting multiple exposures. Word of advice, if you decide to purchase this product, buy two because there is a high probability that one will stop working when you need it most.

Long exposure on Nikon D780

By Keith

Using the ShutterBoss ll for long exposures on the Nikon D780. Haven't used it in the field but have been experimenting indoors. Setting the camera on "bulb" mode and shooting at both 5 seconds and 15 seconds. Works perfectly in both live view and in viewfinder modes. Only drawback is that once you turn off the ShutterBoss, it reverts back to the "self" mode so you have to adjust it back into the "long" mode. The exposure number, e.g. 5 seconds remains, so you don't have to reset the duration time. Not really a big deal since it takes only 10 seconds to readjust, but I wanted to mention it. Or you can just leave it on between shots. The D780 actually allows you to set the shutter speed down to 900 seconds without changing into bulb mode, but you have to set the camera into bulb in order for the ShutterBoss to work. Again, not a problem. Haven't used the ShutterBoss for anything else so I can't comment on other features. As a side note, I reached out to ShutterBoss customer service because I thought the unit wasn't working correctly (worked in live view only). I may not have had the plug all the way in because it worked perfectly the next time I tried it. They were very prompt in responding and had to order in a D780 so that they could replicate my issue. They concluded that I may have been trying mirror lockup and that was causing my condition. They were very accommodating and thorough in their analysis and responded to me several times. Just wanted to say that they were very helpful. Only giving it 4 stars because I am only using it for one purpose and have not tried the other features.

Simple. Has what you need.

Some notes for other buyers: The timer comes with x2 AAA batteries which makes it a better value and ready to shoot. The timer does has an unlimited photo function which was not clearly indicated on the details page. Timer has an audible beep function for each shot but the sound can be turned off.
