Nikon 26293B overview

  • 1Description

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 Waterproof Digital Camera (Orange) is an action-hungry camera that's rugged enough to take just about anything you want to throw at it – extreme cold (temperatures down to 14 °F), large bodies of water, and even accidental drops up to 5.0' (1.5 m). Featuring a 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm 35mm equivalent), the AW100 employs a 16 MP CMOS sensor to capture beautiful images underwater, on the ski slopes, or wherever else you'd like to punish this rugged little model.

The AW100 is underwater-rated down to 33' (10 m), so you'll be able to take it sailing, snorkeling, or even scuba-diving. Meanwhile, you'll know exactly where you are and where you're headed, thanks to the AW100's built-in GPS and electronic compass functions. If that's not enough to get your bearings, simply access the built-in map on the easy-to-read 3" LCD screen.

These functions can help tell the story of the excursion that you cataloged via high-res photos and Full HD 1080p video. Even when you're not recording, the camera's GPS can log your location and record your route. This can also be displayed on the LCD of the AW100. Likewise, the electronic compass enables the recording of the camera's orientation.

The AW100 is designed to be easy to operate with one hand while the rest of your body might be otherwise occupied. HD video recording can be triggered by the press of a single button, and the camera's innovative Action Control feature allows you to set select camera functions without even pressing a button – execution is gestural. This will let you focus on the other task at hand, even if it's just keeping your gloves on.

    Nikon 26293B reviews

Coolpix AW100 Waterproof Digital Camera (Orange) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 246.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Camera I'm a basic point & shoot photographer- on the run. And I always seem to be taking pictures in the worst lighting conditions. I just used this camera on a week long vacation and am amazed at the quality of the pictures. I have always wanted a camera that would deliver photos of what I saw as I saw it- coloring, lighting, etc. This is the camera! Love the wide angle lens and the easy access to most settings. Only complaint is that some of the buttons are awkward to use quickly. Especially the record button for video. If it's dark out (like for fireworks) it's hard to find the button to stop recording. Overall- I really LOVE this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I used the camera for a recent trip to Mexico and used it for snorkeling and general photographs. The camera was awesome and took exceptional photographs and video underwater. There was a time or two that the lens fogged up internally after shooting extended videos. I think it was primarily due to the heat caused by the video and the temp change from going in and out of water. The GPS maps are a little confusing when trying to track your trip. Overall the camera worked great and took sharp pictures and great video. I wish it would have included a wrist strap, I got a little paranoid hand holding the camera underwater - if I would have dropped it, it would have been a goner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Withstands the elements! I took this camera on a rafting trip down the colorado river. It works as advertised. Can take a beating, was immersed in water and sand numerous times, performed reliably. It has a fast startup time and autofocus speed, which is handy for wilderness photos. LCD display is bright, which is great in the desert. I am reviewing the first set of photos now, but what i saw on the LCD was solid (i am no expert by any means). Choosing a picture mode while in motion is kind of a drag, but i think it can be made easier if you bother to read the manual. The gps feature worked well, it is something of a battery drain. Overall the camera did precisely what i needed it to do under pretty adverse circumstances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little camera. This is a great little camera. Color and contrast of pictures is great. You won't get the quality of pictures you will get with a 7D with L series lens, but you will get excellent pictures for a point and shoot camera. The big reason for this camera is its environmental seals and ability to take abuse. I use this camera with my job and never have to worry about water, dust, or small spills. The big thing that sets this camera apart from others is the GPS function in the camera. I use this camera at work. Having the gps coordinates of the picture I have taken has proves invaluable. If you want a strong camera with great features, this may be the camera for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great pictures but... The pictures were great but on the second day of snorkeling the camera leaked. This was on the surface, not at any depth. I thought it a fluke and got another. We were looking forward to photographing whale sharks but as soon as my wife entered the water, on the surface, the second camera flooded as well. Luckily we were able to retrieve pictures we had taken on the surface from the flooded memory card but there is obviously a design issue. I have had an old Sealife camera for years, having made 150+ dives with it and nary a leak. Wish I could combine the picture quality of the AW100 with the reliability of the Sealife. If you buy an AW100 get insurance and have a backup camera available to capture some holiday memories .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not your average Point and Shoot This camera is amazing. I brought it a month ago, and have been trying out all the features this camera has to offer. The pictures I am able to take with this camera are great, the quality is great, and it is very easy to use. I have been using this camera a lot with nature shots, particularly underwater as it is made for this type of use, and the pictures are coming out really cool! At present time, I do not have any negatives to say about this product. The battery life is great, the quality is great, and once you know how to navigate your way around, find the features you want is quick and easy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First point and shoot My first point and shoot camera. I have only owned Nikon SLR and DSLR's and never purchased a p&s for several reasons. They seem to be chipping away at the shutter lag, although it's still apparent in low light but on par or better than other p&s. The rugged rating is awesome as it usually gets shoved in a wet pocket or falls out of my hands (and main reason for purchase). I am familiar with Nikon software and menus, all work well. I wish Nikon would create a universal charger as now my bag has 3 different ones. I have not used, nor will ever use GPS or any other feature that eats battery power. Hard to comment on picture quality, it is acceptable for my use and probably as good as can be with a waterproof lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review from the AW100 Nikon We use this product on our manatee snorkeling tours 5 to 6 days a week, you can see our photos if you go to www.facebook.com/fun2dive We use the camera about 5 hours a day and I am a big Nikon fan and when I found out that the AW100 camera was coming out I had to have one. This is the first underwater camera after the Nikonos RS and the Nikonos 5 series, and I owned both series, so I was hoping this would work out well. Before the Nikon AW100, we used the Olympus TG-610 and TG-810 which did an OK job and I also tried the Go-Pro, and was really disappointed with the underwater results. But the new Nikon AW-100 Nikon has a faster shuttler speed, fast response time, easy to use buttons, good battery life and a quality print. We do not use the videos portion, so I can not comment on that part. Nor do we use the GPS feature or compass... but this is part of the camera which is OK if I was traveling, but still I do not think I would use it. I ran some prints through our Epson 10500 up to 16 x 20 and did very well for a little camera. Over all it is a nice camera, priced well, and love the locking door.
