    IK Multimedia iRig Pre reviews

iRig Pre Microphone Interface is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from GREAT for Radio Remotes! This is an inexpensive way to do professional looking radio remotes using studio quality microphones via cell phones! Note some cells limit the low frequencies but sound still outshines typical RF (Marti) remote units. Quality is best if you use Comrex, Tieline, etc software for live shots or Twisted Wave or similar audio recoring software for pre-recording files to send (via email, dropbox, google drive or similar). I would give 5 stars if there were marks on the level control (for repeatability-we set it and taped over it so it wouldn't be bumped) and a little easier power switch to get to (also maybe separate switch for phantom power as we won't be using that).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Could be much more flexible I bought the iRig as an active DI box for a microphone setup. But it is wired to work only with a low gain circuit on mobile phones. I was looking for a cheap, no fuss line level mic amp. But this is a low gain circuit, to high gain mic, active DI box. The headphone out is connected to the phone's output, not the iRig's. Unfortunately this isn't noted in the description. As one commenter already posted, with a few changes in wiring, this little box could be used as a DI box for a digital camera, and other recording devices. Is it really too much to ask for a cheap, no fuss, Active DI box, with selectable output levels?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for the Indie Film Maker I had used this product before while I had been helping friend of mine with a short film and thought it was great so I decided to buy one for myself. The iRig PRE is an absolutely magnificent product, it delivers an outstanding quality for audio (be it that the microphone is good quality as well) and provides its own phantom power, however the only downside to this product is not the interface, but the app iRig Recorder which is not available on every single android device, but that does not mean you can't use another recording app. Whether you're a beginner or professional this interface provides the everyday indie film maker lot of bang for their buck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Solution for Poor iPhone Audio I use this with an RE50 mic for reporters to voice their tracks for editing in the field as well as to shoot teases in the field with an iphone for instant upload to social media. It works flawlessly and will work with the iPhones Voice Memos App. Its a great tool for the field. You can even plug into press boxes at press conferences to record perfect audio into you phone for later logging or to email the audio of the conference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value for the money It certainly aleviates the woes of not having a proper interface ant let's you connect your XLR devices into a 3.5 mic jack while letting you *monitor, for the price, it is simple, does a great job. My only niggle is that when using with my Audio Technica boom mic for example, it won't tell me if I'm too hot, so make sure your levels are good by interfacing with a program or device (ala Premier Pro for example) before doing anything too serious, or you may not end up with desireable recording. Other than that, for just normal shooting on the go straight into my Nikon D5200 it does a great job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from iRig PRE -gateway to fun singing! On the recommendations of a friend, I purchased an iRig Pre and an Apple lightning converter so I could use my iRig with headphones, and am I GLAD. My friend told me she had been using an iRig for 3 plus years and singing on the SMULE sing app. having recorded 3,400 songs! in 2 1/2 weeks I have recorded some 40 plus songs myself. So I use my iRig Pre with an XLR AKG condenser microphone, a pair of 99$ AKG headphones (I already had the mic and headphones) with my iPhone 7 and have spent the last 16 days recording solo, and I have done quite a number of duets, with, among others, Paloma Faith. Charlie Puth, EmRossi, and other amateur singers from across the globe- most of them pretty good, and a few people who struggle. . I cannot put into words how much fun this is! It is simply a riot to be able to do this. It is a real challenge to learn new songs, get the lyrics and learn the "Feel" of new music. Of course, to be able to do this well, you must have a rudimentary idea of how music works, have pretty good pitch and quick learning skills in your toolbox to be able to get the most out of the whole thing. I highly recommend the iRig Pre to anyone with a love of singing and who would enjoy the process Smule App gives you!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It is OK - But... This is a good quality, quiet mic preamp with phantom power. My only gripe is that the headphone jack does not allow monitoring while recording, only during playback. Quite a disappointment, and this limitation is not clear from the product description.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using with DSLR To use this with a DSLR you have to open it up and modify the wiring. Then chop the external cable and buy a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to plug it into the camera. Once done, works great as a preamp & phantom power unit for DSLR's.
